Kaleb Johnson Aiming to Invade Knoxville Raceway Season Opener for Third Straight Week

This weekend will mark Kaleb Johnson’s third attempt to compete at Knoxville Raceway.

Mother Nature has intervened each of the last two weekends, cancelling the scheduled season opener two weeks ago before wiping out a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader last weekend.

Johnson plans to head to the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa, this Saturday.

“It’s been cold and rainy,” he said. “It was good we didn’t race, but it gives us the itch to get back racing. We plan on bringing down both cars to get as many laps as we can. Since we’ve raced Knoxville with our 360 the last three years I feel we have a decent shot for a good finish. I don’t really have the experience in the 410. I think if we can come home with two cars and some solid finishes our team will be happy.”

Johnson will tackle both the 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car divisions several times this season, including this Saturday. He only has one career 410 start at Knoxville Raceway when he placed 19th on April 30 of last year.

“Just getting laps at a much higher rate of speed will slow things down when we head to Huset’s Speedway,” he said. “That’s the way I look at it. Hopefully it will help my decision making.”

Johnson earned 10 top-five finishes last year in the 360 division, helping him place a career-best fourth in the track’s championship standings.
