Bret Holmes Racing

Bret Holmes and the No. 23 Holmes ll Excavation team finished eighth at Lucas Oil Raceway on Saturday night despite starting near the rear of the field. Holmes started the scheduled 200-lap affair from the 20th position but quickly found his rhythm. The Auburn University student broke into the top 10 of the running order within the first 10 laps of the race. The first caution of the night waved on lap 54. Crew chief Shane Huffman called Holmes to pit road for four tires, fuel and a small chassis adjustment. Holmes restarted sixth on lap 60 with the threat of rain looming over the Brownsburg, Ind., area. As the race closed in on 40 laps to go, rain blanketed the area and forced ARCA Menards officials to call the race complete on lap 168, relegating Holmes to an eighth-place result.

BRET HOLMES QUOTE:“It wasn’t the night that we wanted at Lucas Oil Raceway. At the end of practice, we had to some mechanical issues. By the time we got them repaired, it was too late, and we missed qualifying. That forced us to have to start last in the race. We still persevered and came through the field. We broke into the top five around the halfway point of the race. After that last pit stop, we got shuffled back to 11th and didn’t have enough time to get back into the top five with the rain that came.”
