On Saturday, contact between teammates Gil Linster and Martin Doubek resulted in some flaring temper within the Hendriks Motorsport garage. EuroNASCAR 2 Round 2 of the 2024 NASCAR GP Spain had no such issue for the Dutch team after Linster dominated the race with a victory under the sunny bright skies of Valencia. The Luxembourger led all 15 laps of racing in Circuit Ricardo Tormo to secure not only his second career victory, but also his first ever visit to the Victory Lane.
Linster said pre-race that he would take the same approach he took in Race 1 and this time, he managed to retain his lead entering the first corner. Doubek shadowed his teammate from the start, but the Luxembourger kept a pace the Czech couldn’t match, handling his Hoosier tires perfectly to bring the #50 Toyota Camry to the checkered flag. A gap of 2.604 seconds separated the Hendriks teammates with Patrick Schober only 0.150 seconds behind in third on the #3 RDV Competition Ford Mustang in a photo finish with Doubek.
“Finally, the feeling of being in Victory Lane is so good!” said Linster after a grueling race. “We wanted it for so long. The preparations were very hard and I consider this to be my first race of the year as I didn’t get many laps yesterday. I’m so happy and thanks to the team, we have an amazing car that was so consistent in the lap time and easy to drive.”
Thomas Toffel enjoyed a fine, quiet race in the #34 Race Art Technology Chevrolet Camaro to once again finish fourth. Claudio Cappelli was challenged in the early parts of the race by Kenko Miura, but a mistake from the Japanese driver on lap 3 left the door open for the Italian to dominate the Legend Trophy special classification for drivers aged 40 and more. Thomas Krasonis was sixth ahead of Julien Rehberg, who completed a sweep in the Rookie Trophy.
Thomas Dombrowski enjoyed a fierce battle with Krasonis to cross the line in sixth, but a time penalty for track limit infringements dropped him to eighth. Roberto Benedetti and Mario Ercoli completed the top-10 and both were second in their respective classes. Victor Neumann battled tire degradation to finish third in the Rookie Trophy while 74-year old Michael Bleekemolen rounded the podium in Legend Trophy. Arianna Casoli in 17th is the fastest in the Lady Trophy.
With EuroNASCAR 2 completing their weekend at NASCAR GP Spain in Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the festivities now move for the EuroNASCAR PRO who will start their Race 2 at 13:55 CEST. All races can be watched live on EuroNASCAR’s YouTube channel and numerous TV channels around the world.
