- TRUEX AT TEXAS: Ryan Truex makes his return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series in the No. 20 Gazoo Racing Toyota GR Supra to make his third start of the season at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. The Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 marks the start of a three-race stretch for Truex, as he will run Texas, Talladega, and Dover consecutively. In five prior Xfinity Series starts at Texas Motor Speedway, Truex has collected one top-10 and one lap led, highlighted by a best finish of sixth. Despite a 20.8 average finish in Forth Worth, the sixth-place finish came in his most recent start at the track in 2022, which was also his only start there in Joe Gibbs Racing equipment. Truex also has six starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Texas, where he has scored one top-five and two top-10s.
- TRUEX’S SEASON SO FAR: Truex had a strong run going for most of the night in Daytona as he scored stage points in both stages with a 10th place finish in stage one and a sixth-place finish in stage two to collect a total of six stage points on the night. Truex was in a prime position to maintain his strong run on the white flag lap but unfortunately got caught up in a wreck with Ryan Sieg and finished the race in the 21st position. In Atlanta, Truex ran up front all night, scoring a pair of fourth place finishes in each stage. In overtime, Truex had a shot at the win but ran out of fuel in turn three and coasted to a ninth-place finish.
- No. 20 CAR NOTES: The 20 car leads the Xfinity Series with 346 laps led this season. Aric Almirola leads all drivers with 243 laps led – all coming in the last two races. In five starts, John Hunter Nemechek led 103 laps.
- UNSUNG HERO: While drivers, crew chiefs, and even car numbers have changed, one constant in the Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series program over the past four seasons is car chief Brian Gainey. Since the start of the 2021 season, Gainey’s teams have won a whopping 27 races in 106 starts. In 2021, Gainey served as the No. 54 team’s car chief for an 11-win season with multiple drivers including Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek. The next season, Gainey was once again the No. 54 team’s car chief for Gibbs’ seven-win Xfinity Series championship season. Last year, Gainey worked as the car chief for Nemechek’s seven-win season. This year, he is back with the No. 20 team that has earned a pair of wins with Nemechek and last week with Aric Almirola.
- ON THE PITBOX: Rookie crew chief Tyler Allen is off to a strong start to his crew chief career as he has already scored two wins in two starts. Allen has been at JGR since 2015, most recently as the lead engineer on Christopher Bell’s No. 20, led by Adam Stevens, a position he has held since 2021. He also worked under Stevens as the lead engineer on the No. 18 from 2019-2020. In 2017, Allen made his move to the Cup Series on the No. 18 as a race engineer, a position he held for two years. His first position at JGR came in 2015 as he was hired to be the race engineer on the No. 54 NASCAR Xfinity Series car with Kyle Busch. Allen won the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series championship and 25 races across his seven years in JGR’s Cup shop, as well as 19 Xfinity races during his time in the series. Allen and Truex will work together for the first time this weekend in Texas.
- JGR AT TEXAS: Joe Gibbs Racing has 17 Xfinity Series victories in 116 combined starts at Texas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch, Erik Jones, Christopher Bell, Harrison Burton, and John Hunter Nemechek have all taken a JGR Toyota to victory lane in the lone star state. To go along with the wins, JGR has scored 46 top-fives, 74 top-10s, ten poles, and an impressive average finish of 11.5 since making their first start at the track in 1998.

“After a bit of a hiatus, how do you plan to get back into the car and compete this weekend at Texas?”
“Well for starters, it helps when you have a great team behind you. I’ve become a bit conditioned to the part-time role over the years, which makes a difference as well. Naturally its harder to compete when you’re not in the car every week, but it also adds that motivation to perform. Every race feels like the golden opportunity to prove myself and there’s a healthy type of pressure that comes with that. I spend a ton of time in the sim in my off weeks as well, so I’ve been staying sharp and I feel fully prepared to go out there and compete this weekend in Texas.
