Federico Monti and Alex Caffi welcome a new driver to their NASCAR Whelen Euro Series team for the 2024 season: Claudio Remigio Cappelli. The Italian with his famous beard joins Academy / Alex Caffi Motorsport to compete for the EuroNASCAR 2 title and the Legend Trophy for drivers aged 40 and over. After finishing tenth overall in points in 2023, Cappelli, who lives in Robecco d’Oglio, found a new home in the Italian-Monegasque joint venture led by team manager Stefano Bacci. The 48-year-old is poised to become a regular candidate for race wins and a title contender in EuroNASCAR’s most unpredictable championship.

Cappelli made his maiden NASCAR outing in 2019 and joined EuroNASCAR full-time in 2022, immediately showing an impressive pace at the wheel of a 400-horsepower V8 beast with no electronic aids. He scored his first top-5 result in his second race at the legendary Indy Circuit of Brands Hatch. An overall podium finish in EuroNASCAR 2 at Circuit Zolder highlighted a strong rookie season in which Cappelli finished third in the Legend Trophy. He also raced in EuroNASCAR PRO in his inaugural season, scoring three top-10 results while competing against the best European NASCAR drivers.

In 2023 the Italian focused on the EuroNASCAR 2 championship and the Legend Trophy. He scored a total of five race wins in his class and finished tenth in points with nine overall top-10 and two top-5 finishes. Cappelli amassed a total of seven Legend Trophy race wins and finished second among the Legends, just ten points behind Melvin de Groot. The race driver from the Cremona countryside is ready to take on the Dutch rival again and storm into the top-5 of EuroNASCAR 2.

“I just love American cars, bikes and the lifestyle,” said Cappelli, who will share the #5 car with top driver Vladimiros Tziortzis. “That’s why EuroNASCAR is my natural habitat for doing motorsports. I’m so happy that this championship exists in Europe because it’s unique, while other series are like having the same soup over and over again. I want to become EuroNASCAR 2 champion and win the Legend Trophy,” A roofer at work, Cappelli is happy to have joined Academy / Alex Caffi Motorsports for the next chapter of his racing career.

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series kicks off April 13-14 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. All races of Europe’s official NASCAR championship will be broadcast live on the EuroNASCAR YouTube channel and on a variety of television services around the world. Don’t miss a single lap and keep an eye on the #5 EuroNASCAR and Cappelli as he shares his best moments in EuroNASCAR with his many fans on the grid, in the parades and in the open paddock.
