ARCA Menards Series at Pocono Raceway: Sunset Hill 150 Pre-race Notes

ARCA

  • The Sunset Hill 150 will be the tenth race of 20 for the ARCA Menards Series in 2023. It will mark the 71st championship points-paying race for the ARCA Menards Series and including three non-points invitation-only races held in the 1980s, the 74th time the ARCA Menards Series has raced at Pocono Raceway.
  • The first ARCA Menards Series race at Pocono Raceway, won by Bobby Watson, was held on the now-defunct three-quarter mile oval that was located around what is now the NASCAR Cup Series garage area.
  • There have been no repeat winners in the last 30 ARCA Menards Series races at Pocono Raceway, dating to Chase Miller’s win in June 2010.
  • Tim Steele is the leading ARCA Menards Series winner at Pocono Raceway, collecting nine of his 41 career wins at The Tricky Triangle. Five of those wins, from July 1996 through July 1998, were consecutive.
  • Forty-eight different drivers have won at least one ARCA Menards Series race at Pocono Raceway: Bob Schacht (4), Lee Raymond, Bob Keselowski (5), Jimmy Horton (2), Ben Hess, Tim Steele (9), Jeff Purvis, Mike Wallace (3), Frank Kimmel (3), Blaise Alexander, Kerry Earnhardt, Ryan Newman, Damon Lusk, Casey Atwood, Casey Mears, Scott Riggs, Ryan Hemphill, Travis Kvapil, Chase Miller, Chad McCumbee, Michael McDowell, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Justin Allgaier, Joey Logano, Justin Lofton, Craig Goess, Robb Brent, Tim George, Jr., Ty Dillon, Brennan Poole, Chad Hackenbracht, Chase Elliott, Corey LaJoie, Kyle Larson, Justin Allison, Trevor Bayne, Grant Enfinger, Chase Briscoe, Riley Herbst, Justin Haley, Harrison Burton, Zane Smith, Ty Majeski, Christian Eckes, Ty Gibbs, Corey Heim, and Taylor Gray.
  • Fourteen drivers earned their first career ARCA Menards Series win at Pocono Raceway: Kerry Earnhardt, Ryan Newman, Casey Atwood, Scott Riggs, Craig Goess, Robb Brent, Tim George, Jr., Chad Hackenbracht, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Justin Allison, Trevor Bayne, Cole Custer, and Riley Herbst. For Atwood, Riggs, Kvapil, Goess, Brent, George, Hackenbracht, Elliott, Larson, Allison, Bayne, and Custer it is their only career ARCA Menards Series victory.
  • Bob Schacht won two of the three non-points ARCA Menards Series invitational races at Pocono Raceway, in 1985 and 1987. Bobby Jacks won in 1986. Those victories do not count as official ARCA Menards Series wins.
  • Brennan Poole holds the track qualifying record, set in 2012, at 51.857 seconds/173.554 miles per hour.
  • Christian Eckes holds the track race record, set in a caution-free 150-mile race in 2019, at 164.534 miles per hour.
  • Jesse Love enters the Sunset Hill 150 with a 49-point lead over Frankie Muniz in the ARCA Menards Series championship point standings. Love has won four of the nine races held so far in 2023 with wins at Talladega Superspeedway, Kansas Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, and Elko Speedway.
  • Other winners in 2023 include Greg Van Alst (Daytona), Tyler Reif (Phoenix), William Sawalich (Berlin), Tyler Ankrum (Mid-Ohio), and Luke Fenhaus (Iowa).
  • General Tire Pole Award winners in 2023 include Connor Mosack (Daytona), William Sawalich (Phoenix, Elko, Iowa), Jesse Love (Kansas, Charlotte, Berlin), and Sean Hingorani (Mid-Ohio).
  • The record for most cautions and caution flag laps was set in June 2006 and tied in August 2007 at nine cautions for 49 laps. There has been one caution-free race, in 2019; it is the most recent caution-free race in ARCA Menards Series history.
  • Last year’s race was slowed by caution flags six times for 31 laps, forcing an early end to the scheduled 200-miler due to darkness. The race was shortened to 64 laps, 16 laps short of its scheduled distance.
  • Should the race need to be extended into overtime, there will be unlimited attempts at a two-lap “green-white-checkered” finish. Should the caution flag be displayed after the white flag is displayed, there will be unlimited attempts at a one-lap “green and white together” finish.
