Kaleb Johnson is tackling a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway this weekend.

The two-day event at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa, will mark Johnson’s season debut with the World of Outlaws as well as his first trip to the track this year after last weekend’s opener rained out.

“I’m expecting 60-plus cars,” he said. “We’ve only ever ran a 410 there once and that was at the beginning of last year so our experience is limited. Just going out to make good laps and gain experience is the main goal. Honestly, if we can just contend to make the A Main I’d be happy with that.”

Johnson has limited starts with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ in his racing career with a top performance of 19th during the 2021 AGCO Jackson Nationals hosted by Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn.

“That’s the only feature I’ve made,” he said. “We’ve probably ran with the World of Outlaws around 10 times. Last year at the Huset’s High Bank Nationals one night I got passed by Donny Schatz for the last spot in the A Main. I’m going against guys with a lot more experience and laps. Racing against those guys makes you better every race.”

Although Johnson has a lack of laps versus the World of Outlaws as well as in a 410ci winged sprint car at Knoxville Raceway, he has finished in the top 10 in the 360ci sprint car track standings each of the last three years.

“Hopefully we can unload with speed and be competitive, but the biggest goal for this weekend is to learn and gain experience,” he said.
