No. 18 Poppy Bank Toyota Supra News and Notes

  • HEMRIC AT DARLINGTON: Daniel Hemric has one top-10 finish in four NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Darlington Raceway. In two starts at the Track Too Tough to Tame last year, Hemric finished sixth in May and 37th in September after being collected in an accident on Lap 2.
  • TALLADEGA RECAP: The No. 18 team led 18 laps in the most recent Xfinity Series race two weeks ago at Talladega Superspeedway. After leading early, Hemric finished seventh in both stages and was scored 12th when rain ended the race short of the scheduled 113-lap distance.
  • THROWBACK STORY: This Saturday, the Poppy Bank Toyota Supra will feature a throwback scheme honoring NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2022 member Red Farmer. Farmer’s grandson Charlie Brock is a mechanic on the No. 18 team and was surprised at the shop Monday morning at 5:30 a.m. as Hemric and crew chief Dave Rogers unveiled the car for the first time. Along with Farmer’s name above the door number of the white and gold Supra, the car’s C-posts will feature the names of the No. 18 team members like Farmer’s No. 97 car showcased his lead mechanic and pit crew’s names.
  • LOOP DATA: Hemric’s standout start to the season is evident in the Loop Data provided by NASCAR. The 30-year-old driver leads the Xfinity Series in laps run on the lead lap. He also ranks in the top five in nearly every key category, including average running position, driver rating, fastest laps run, laps led, fastest drivers late in a run, laps in the top 15, green flag speed, and speed by segment.
  • ROGERS’ RESUME: Dave Rogers has enjoyed success at Darlington Raceway in the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. He guided his teams to three consecutive Xfinity Series wins at the track from 2006-2008. In the most recent race at the track, the No. 18 Supra started sixth and finished fourth. Despite never reaching victory lane in Cup Series competition at Darlington, Rogers’ teams claimed a pair of top-five finishes, five top-10s and 473 laps led in eight races.
  • POPPY BANK: Poppy Bank will be featured as the primary sponsor of the No. 18 Supra in Saturday’s race at Darlington Raceway. Poppy Bank is a 5-star rated organization and is recognized as one of the strongest financial institutions in the country. Since opening its first branch in 2005, Poppy Bank has grown to over $3 Billion in assets with branches across the San Francisco Bay Area, Roseville, and Southern California.
  • JGR AT DARLINGTON: The Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series team has won 11 races at Darlington Raceway, including Brandon Jones’ victory at the track last September. In 66 combined starts, the organization has racked up 33 top-five finishes, 45 top-10s and 1,192 laps led. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Bobby Labonte, Joey Logano, and Tony Stewart join Jones on the list of drivers who have taken JGR to victory lane at Darlington.
  • FIRST FOR JGR: Bobby Labonte picked up Joe Gibbs Racing’s first Xfinity Series win at Darlington Raceway in 1998. That day, Labonte started ninth and led the final 14 laps after passing Jeff Burton late in the race to earn the first of 174 wins for the team.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, at 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Talk about your throwback scheme and why you all chose this design…

“We’re pumped up about running Red Farmer’s car this weekend at Darlington. It really came together from talking with guys at the shop because Red’s grandson Charlie (Brock) is such an important part of my No. 18 team. As soon as this idea came up, Dave (Rogers, crew chief) and I were all about it and wanted to do everything we could to make it happen. Getting to be at the shop Monday morning to unveil the car and show Charlie meant a lot to me and Dave and everyone at JGR. So, we’re fired up about this weekend and definitely want to have a good run in that paint scheme to make Red proud.”
