Michigan native Brad Keselowski won the pole for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Consumers Energy 400. The dramatics continued to build throughout qualifying on Friday as Keselowski loomed.

Brad Keselowski was the last driver to qualify for the Consumers Energy 400. He patiently watched every driver lay down a fast lap. As speeds continued to get faster at the end of qualifying, it was Keselowski who proved to be the fastest of all. Keselowski topped the charts with a speed of 190.471 MPH.

“I think the track was in really good shape,. I don’t know if there was anything that really favored up, mostly it was just the team doing a great job with the preparation and executing a flawless lap driving the car. Most of the credit goes to my team for sure.”

It is the second time Keselowski has won the pole at Michigan International Speedway with his first being in August of 2017

Kevin Harvick will start second followed by William Byron, Alex Bowman and Clint Bowyer. Joey Logano held the top spot for the first half of qualifying, but he will start the race ninth. Logano started on the pole for the FireKeepers Casino 400 in June and won the race.

“It was a good day for our Mobil 1 Ford Mustang,” Harvick said. “Track position is really important everywhere we go. Coming to Michigan it is of the utmost importance so this is a really good start to the weekend for us.”

The green flag to the Consumers Energy 400 flies at 3 p.m. on Aug. 11 on NBCSports with Keselowski leading the field.
