Garrett Smithley struggled early in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Alsco 300 but had an amazing comeback to finish in 14th place for team JD Motorsports with Gary Keller.
Smithley’s No. 0 FAME Chevrolet Camaro was too loose in qualifying, and he started the race in 36th place. Smithley fought a loose car through most of the race and spun out on lap 80. Smithley was able to keep the car off of the wall, and there was no damage. In the third stage of the race, the No. 0 crew made the right combo of adjustments, and Smithley raced his way to a 14th place finish on the lead lap.
“Charlotte never disappoints!,” said Smithley. “I was beginning to think that we just weren’t going to have any luck here today. I spun out and made some mistakes early in the race, but we came back and finished 14th. It was a heck of a day for FAME and for my ‘Number Nuthin’’ JD Motorsports team.”
Next up for the NASCAR Xfinity Series is the Pocono Green 250 at Pocono Raceway on June 2nd, 2018.
