Chevrolet Drivers Win Championships in All Three NHRA Professional Classes

Chevrolet drivers capped a very successful National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season by winning all three pro automobile class championships at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway.

“What an amazing day for the Chevrolet teams in the NHRA,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Just tremendous efforts for Robert Hight and his Camaro SS crew to earn the Funny Car championship, Bo Butner and the crew of his Camaro SS to take the Pro Stock title and Brittany Force and her crew to win the Top Fuel championship.  Congratulations to John Force Racing and KB Racing on a monumental finish to the season.”

Chevrolet drivers amassed 33 victories in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock during the 24-race season.

In the Sportsman divisions, Justin Lamb of Hendersonville, Nevada, secured the Stock Eliminator title in his 2017 Chevrolet COPO Camaro. David Barton of Robesonia, Pennsylvania, earned the Factory Stock Showdown championship driving a Chevrolet COPO Camaro.  Lamb also won the Super Stock title in a Chevrolet Cobalt.

Hight secured his second Funny Car championship and delivered the first Funny Car title for Chevrolet in a decade.  Hight, driving the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS, registered two victories in the Countdown. He was the No. 1 qualifier a class-leading eight times during the season, and reset the Funny Car national elapsed time and speed records.

Chevrolet secured its fifth consecutive Pro Stock championship as Butner, driver of the Jim Butner Auto Chevrolet Camaro SS, took the top honor for the first time with a win in today’s season finale.  It is the fifth Pro Stock win of the season for Butner.

Force, driving the Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster, secured her first professional title and the second by a female in Top Fuel competition. Force, who entered the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship in sixth place, won three events and was runner-up in another during the six-race playoff.

John Force Racing has won 20 NHRA team championships in Funny Car and Top Fuel.

Courtney Force, driving the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS, finished a career-best third in Funny Car. Sixteen-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force placed sixth in the PEAK Coolant & Motor Oil Chevrolet Camaro SS.
