Team JEGS racers once again ‘going pink’ for Breast Cancer Awareness month

The JEGS Foundation for Cancer Research raises funding and brings awareness to fighting cancer every day of the year, but in October things are taken to even greater heights as the entire fleet of JEGS-branded racecars go pink to specifically bring breast cancer awareness to a national audience.

Six-time world champion drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr., three-time world champion drag racer Troy Coughlin, two-time Division 3 drag racing champion Mike Coughlin, Division 3 drag racing champion Troy Coughlin Jr., rookie sportsman drag racer Paige Coughlin, NASCAR Truck Series rookie Cody Coughlin and Junior Dragster racer Clay Coughlin will all be clad in pink for the entire month, with high hopes of getting maximum TV exposure to help the Coughlin family’s longstanding “Racing For Cancer Research” cause.
“We’ve had several members of our extended family affected by cancer, including breast cancer, so this is obviously something that’s near and dear to our hearts,” said Mike Coughlin, one of four Coughlin brothers that own and operate the mail order parts giant founded in Columbus, Ohio. “We always do our best to win races and get on TV to promote the JEGS brand and all the other wonderful companies that support us, but October all that takes a back seat to raising awareness for cancer research. What’s really cool is all our associate sponsors get fully behind the ‘Go Pink’ themes and help us promote this wonderful cause.”
To kick-off the month in style, Jeg Jr.’s JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro, Troy’s twin-turbo JEGS.com Chevrolet Corvette C7 and Mike’s JEGS.com Top Dragster will be unveiled for the first time at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, on the front lawn of The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus.
Dr. Michael A. Caligiuri, Director and CEO of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) and a steadfast fan of Team JEGS, will speak during the unveiling of the importance of cancer research and what the JEGS Foundation for Cancer Research has meant to the institutions he heads.
“JEGS customers also have the opportunity to round their sale up to the nearest dollar to contribute to the cause,” said Jeg Jr., who serves on the Board of Directors at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. “It’s been a great way for everyone to get involved and we encourage everyone to ’round-up’ their purchases to help out.”
JEGS Automotive Inc., one of the largest and most successful automotive equipment companies in the nation and a record-breaking racing team, founded The JEGS Foundation to help fund cancer research. Among many other donations made through their foundation, the Coughlin family made a single $10 million gift to The Ohio State University Foundation for cancer treatment and research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. OSUCCC – James honored the gift by naming the lobby in the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute the “JEGS Foundation Lobby.”
Through numerous personal experiences, the Coughlin family recognized that cancer touches almost everyone in the world. Their own experience with cancer is the foundation of their commitment to raise public awareness about prevention while generating funding for cancer research.
Through their Delaware, Ohio-based JEGS Mail Order business and Team JEGS Racing, JEGS Foundation for Cancer Research promotes access to information, support for cancer research and an avenue to become involved to make a difference.
Statistically, 1 in 4 persons will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. The OSUCCC – James has been chosen as one of two National Cancer Institute – designated facilities in Ohio to receive the proceeds of the JEGS Foundation.
