Samantha Coughlin posts runner-up finish in Indy

Samantha Coughlin raced her JEGS.com Chevrolet Roadster Super Gas entry to the final round at the world’s most prestigious drag racing event – the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals – Labor Day Monday at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

Coughlin, the daughter of past Super Comp world champion Al Kenny and the wife of five-time Pro Stock world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., was able to outlast a Super Gas field of over one hundred cars to reach the “money round” in Lucas Oil Sportsman Series racing in Indy.

“We had seven good rounds,” Samantha said. “It was a great weekend. We went two rounds a day, I got to go racing with Jeg and our daughter Carly was with us so it was fun. It’s Indy so each round
is fun.
“Once I won fourth round on Sunday morning and then knew I would have a fifth round bye into Monday morning, it made it easier. It kind of just let me chill out and enjoy the moment so it was fun.”
Samantha, the sister of multi-time NHRA Divisional champion Jason Kenny, is a past NHRA national event champion. She won the Super Comp title in Norwalk, Ohio in 2009.
“It takes an army to raise a little one and I had my side kick Carly driving the car to the [staging] lanes with me and picking me up at the scales and driving me back to the pits,” Samantha said. “With Nana (Carol Kenny), Carly, Jeg, Jason, dad, Randy Bishop, Justin Beaver, the whole team, and pretty much the whole family here racing, it makes today even more special.”
