McIntosh Makes History in Winning POWRi National Midget League Title

Toyota Racing Development

Toyota driver Cannon McIntosh wrapped up the POWRi National Midget League title with a second-place finish at Port City Raceway Saturday night, becoming just the second driver in history to win two national midget championships in the same year after clinching the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series title last weekend. He joins Brad Kuhn who won both the USAC and POWRi titles in 2009.

The 21-year-old McIntosh scored four wins and 16 top-five finishes in 17 POWRi events. When combined with the Xtreme schedule, he registered eight victories and 29 top-five finishes in 31 races on the way to winning two championships.

McIntosh currently ranks second all-time among Toyota midget car drivers in career wins with 45 trailing only Christopher Bell (59).

“It’s been a history-making season for Cannon and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team,” said Tyler Gibbs, General Manager of TRD, U.S.A. “It’s extremely difficult to win one national championship, but to become just the second driver ever to win two midget national championships in the same year truly shows the level of Cannon’s talent. And he’ll head into November with a chance at a third title in USAC.”

McIntosh currently stands second in the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series and will look to earn an unprecedented third national championship in November when the USAC series closes with seven races in California.

Overall, Toyota-powered drivers have now won 19 overall national midget series championships since 2013 with nine in USAC competition, eight in POWRi and two in Xtreme Outlaw.
