Lee Greenwood, the legendary singer/songwriter, will perform his timeless anthem, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” during pre-race festivities for the South Point 400 NASCAR Playoffs event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Greenwood began his career working as both a dealer and lounge singer for current South Point owner Michael Gaughan at the now-defunct Royal Inn on Convention Center Drive in Las Vegas.

“Between 1973 and 1976, I was a dealer, dealing most of the games in the casino,” Greenwood said. “In 1979 I was hired to play in the gazebo just below the Folies Bergere showroom at the Tropicana. During my time there as a musician and singer, my first single entered the charts in country music.”

Greenwood, a Southern California native, began his musical experience singing in church at seven years old. His career started as a saxophonist and guitarist in several bands, then launched his solo career in 1982. Two years later, Greenwood’s breakout success came with releasing the iconic “God Bless the U.S.A.” In response to the social and economic challenges at the time, his song was a message of unity, pride, and gratitude that resonated deeply with Americans.

He has been nominated and won numerous prestigious awards, including a Grammy award for Male Country Vocal Performance in 1984. Earlier this year, Greenwood raised funds and awareness for U.S. veterans with the film “An All-Star Salute to Lee Greenwood.” In the film, special guests, including Dolly Parton, Paula Deen, and Kid Rock, performed Greenwood’s top hits to celebrate his success and support the U.S. military. He is currently on tour all over the country.
