No. 20 He Gets Us Toyota GR Supra News and Notes

  • ALMIROLA AT INDY: Aric Almirola has made 10 career starts on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway across NASCAR’s top two series. In nine NASCAR Cup Series starts at the Brickyard, Almirola’s best finish (third) came in the most recent race in 2020. That day, he started fifth and earned the top-five finish. The Florida native started eighth and finished 14th in his only NASCAR Xfinity Series start at the track in 2015. Almirola enjoyed success in five Xfinity Series starts at the 0.686-mile Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in nearby Clermont, Indiana, including a pole award in 2007 and three finishes of sixth or better in five starts.
  • ALMIROLA IN 2024: In five Xfinity Series starts this season, Almirola posted a memorable win at Martinsville Speedway, a second-place finish at Richmond Raceway and a fifth-place result in his most recent outing at Darlington Raceway. Despite competing in only five of 19 races, Almirola’s 243 laps led rank fifth among all drivers.
  • 20 TEAM IN 2024: Through 19 races this season, the No. 20 team has posted five wins, eight top-five finishes, and 12 top-10s. The team has collected wins with four different drivers – Aric Almirola, Christopher Bell, John Hunter Nemechek, and Ryan Truex – and is currently ranked fifth in the owner points standings.
  • UNSUNG HERO: While drivers, crew chiefs, and even car numbers have changed, one constant in the Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series program over the past four seasons is car chief Brian Gainey. Since the start of the 2021 season, Gainey’s teams have won a whopping 30 races in 118 starts. In 2021, Gainey served as the No. 54 team’s car chief for an 11-win season with multiple drivers including Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek. The next season, Gainey was once again the No. 54 team’s car chief for Gibbs’ seven-win Xfinity Series championship season. Last year, Gainey worked as the car chief for Nemechek’s seven-win season. This year, he is back with the No. 20 team that has earned five wins with rookie crew chief Tyler Allen.
  • JGR AT INDIANAPOLIS: Joe Gibbs Racing won four of nine Xfinity Series races on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval from 2012 to 2019. In 25 combined starts at the 2.5-mile oval, the organization has claimed nine top-five finishes, 15 top-10s, five pole awards, and 348 laps led. Kyle Busch drove JGR Toyotas to all four of the team’s Xfinity Series victories at Indianapolis.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at 3:30 p.m. ET on USA Network, IMS Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
