Derek Hagar will make his 410ci winged sprint car season debut this Wednesday.
Hagar is driving for Paul Hart during a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions race at Benton Speedway in Benton, Mo., where he last competed in June 2013. It also marks his first All Star start since July 2021.
“We used to take our 360 up there and contend with the 410 guys,” he said. “This was back in 2007, 2008, 2009 era. The place had been closed down for a while and recently reopened. It’s maybe the size of Riverside International Speedway (in West Memphis, Ark.), maybe a tick bigger. I’m looking forward to getting back there.”
Hagar’s most recent race at the oval yielded a third-place result a little more than a decade ago.
He will return to his No. 9jr on Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Miss., for an ASCS Mid-South Region race. He has a four-race winning streak at the track with three trips to Victory Lane in 2019 and the first during the streak in 2018.
“It’s one of those slick, dusty race tracks and we tend to shine when it gets like that,” he said. “We have a line figured out there that works with my driving style and the car to carry speed. It’s been a fun track for us.”
