Fans are camped out, final preparations are complete, and the stage is set for Atlanta’s first night race weekend since 2014.
Fans from all 50 states, seven Canadian provinces, and 21 total countries will congregate at Atlanta Motor Speedway for a weekend full of racing and entertainment. They’ll enjoy musical acts all weekend with Revs & Riffs concerts that complement the weekend’s on-track action, including performances by Andy Grammer, Lonestar, and Chapel Hart.
This weekend also sees the return of Trackside Live with Kenny Wallace and John Roberts, bringing a medley of racing stars to banter on the AMS Fan Stage. That show will be found in the AMS Fan Zone, which as always is free and packed with live entertainment, carnival rides, and interactive attractions for fans to enjoy before entering the facility.
All that entertainment is the appetizer for a pair of night races on Atlanta Motor Speedway’s high banks. Sparks will fly as drivers race just inches apart in Saturday night’s Alsco Uniforms 250 and the Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart on Sunday night. All told, more than 1,000 lights will be used to illuminate the speedway’s 1.54-mile racing surface, requiring 1,765,000 watts of electricity.
The winner of this year’s Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart will be on a short list of drivers to win a night race at AMS. Sunday night’s race will be just the seventh NASCAR Cup Series race scheduled to run under the lights in Atlanta Motor Speedway’s 63-year history. Kasey Kahne is the only driver to win more than one Atlanta night race (2009, 2014) and just two active drivers have Atlanta night race victories on their resumes: Denny Hamlin (2012) and Kyle Busch (2013).
