UAB Medicine has been named the Official Medical Provider for Talladega Superspeedway. Alabama’s largest hospital — and only American College of Surgeons-verified Level I Adult Trauma Center — will provide award-winning medical services to NASCAR’s biggest track, the track announced today.
The partnership also includes branding on all on-site care centers that provide care for both NASCAR competitors and fans.
“We have had a great relationship with UAB Hospital, and it’s only fitting that we grow the partnership as our premier health care provider for our major events,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Brian Crichton. “UAB Medicine has a phenomenal track record of providing excellent care and it’s amazing to have them in our own backyard.”
UAB Medicine’s impeccable care was recognized recently with three awards in conjunction with Talladega Superspeedway at the NASCAR Safety and Operations Summit in January. These awards were given to UAB Medicine employees, including the Excellence in Track Services award won by Bobby Lewis, M.D., the 2022 Nursing Director of the Year award won by Talladega Superspeedway’s Courtney Carruba, CRNA, and the 2022 Teamwork Award for the Talladega Superspeedway Infield Care Center staff.
“To be the official medical provider of Talladega Superspeedway is significant and a testament to the quality of care that UAB Medicine offers and has long been known for,” said Bobby Lewis, M.D., DMD, vice chair for Clinical Operations for UAB’s Department of Emergency Medicine. “As one of the largest hospitals in the country and the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level One Trauma Center in Alabama, UAB’s expertise complements the needs of Talladega tremendously, and we are excited to continue to serve the track, drivers and fans in this clinical capacity for many races to come.”
The spring action at Talladega kicks off Saturday, April 22, with a doubleheader featuring the ARCA Menards Series General Tire 200 followed by the NASCAR Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300 later that same day. Then the sun sets and the party starts with Cole Swindell’s performance in the Saturday Night Infield Concert Presented by Cabo Wabo Tequila.
Saturday’s excitement continues into Sunday with the return of the NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, as drivers prepare to tackle the iconic 33-degree banking. Admission to Swindell’s concert is free with purchase of a ticket to Sunday’s race.
