– Dominic Scelzi is bound for Arizona this weekend to start the 2023 campaign.
Scelzi will make his debut at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande during an ASCS Southwest Region doubleheader running Friday and Saturday.
“I’m excited to get the season underway and to return to the state of Arizona, where we had a great trip last winter,” he said. “Jimmy (Carr) and the guys have worked hard so we hope to start the season by running up front right out of the box.”
Scelzi swept an ASCS Southwest Region two-day event at Cocopah Speedway last November during his most recent trip to Arizona. It marked his first-ever visit to Victory Lane in ‘The Grand Canyon State.’
“It was a great weekend that put us in double digits in terms of wins last season,” he said. “It also was special to add another state to our wins list. The goal is to continue that fortune this Friday and Saturday.”
This weekend will serve as an opportunity for Scelzi to knock the offseason rust off so to speak with marquee events in his home state of California on the horizon. The NARC 410 Sprint Car Series starts the season on March 18 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the $6,000-to-win Mini Gold Cup followed by the High Limit Sprint Car Series season opener on March 21 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, where the feature winner will earn $23,023.
“We’ve won the NARC championship the last two years and will return to the series this year to go after another title,” Scelzi said. “The High Limit event will be neat as well. Racing in Chico and Tulare is always a blast so I can’t wait for both of those big events.”
