John Force and the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS team enter the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona looking to cap off the legend’s 47th season with a victory and hopefully a couple of team championships.
Force has held steady to the No. 4 spot in points through the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, NHRA’s six race playoffs. They’ve secured three final round appearance that included a victory at the Charlotte Four-Wide event marking the 34th season in which Force has won at least one tour event. Their streak of four consecutive semifinal appearances to start the Countdown has helped solidify their position and with points and a half on the table in Pomona, the PEAK Chevy could make a healthy jump to end the season.
“It’s been a good season so far, all around. I haven’t gotten into the winner’s circle as much as we’d like but this PEAK team stayed in the conversation all year long. Robert has a real shot at the championship, it’s been a fight, the competition has been intense, but that Auto Club team has led the way,” Force said. “The competition is just as tough over there in Top Fuel, Brittany with Monster and Flav-R-Pac, they’re making a run at it, it’s going to be exciting. Racing in Pomona is always exciting, always an extra rush for the Auto Club Finals.”
Force has won 16 times in three different events over the last 33 years at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. He is one of only two drivers (with Jeg Coughlin Jr.) to have won three different events at Auto Club Raceway thanks to a 2001 victory in the 50th Anniversary NHRA Nationals. He has a total of eight wins at the Finals coming in 1988, 1994, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2019. He last made an appearance in the final round in 2016. In 2021, he started from the No. 5 qualifying spot before making a semifinal exit. He has a total of 16 No. 1s at Auto Club Raceway with six of them coming at the Auto Club Finals (1994, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2013).
