Making just his second appearance in the Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, Austin Prock is trying to regain the form that took him and the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist dragster team to the final round in the season-opening Winternationals at Pomona, Calif.
With a new crew for 2022 anchored by crew chiefs Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler, the 2019 NHRA Rookie-of-the-Year is in search of consistency after glimpses of the performance they’ve been working so hard for. As of late, the Montana Brand team have been edging up the points standings. Prock comes into the Virginia NHRA Nationals seventh in the Camping World Drag Racing Series points although he is just 41 points (roughly two rounds) out of the No. 5 position.
“It was a good weekend off celebrating Mother’s Day, always nice to spend time with family and friends, but this Montana Brand team is excited to get back to business,” Prock said. “We’ve been getting this car back into winning form and can’t wait to see what our performance looks like this weekend. Hoping the weather holds off, and we can put on a showing for our awesome NHRA fans. We haven’t been back to Richmond since my rookie season, so it’ll be great to be back.”
In 2019, Prock raced the Montana Brand / RMT dragster to a second-round exit at Virginia Motorsports Park. Prock will be looking for just his second career victory when he heads to Richmond. The third-generation racer is also in search of his first No. 1 qualifying position.
Qualifying at the Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park begins Friday with a night session at 8:10 p.m. and continues Saturday at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Eliminations are slated for Sunday at noon. The Virginia NHRA Nationals will be televised on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) beginning with a qualifying show Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET and a second qualifying show Sunday at 9:00 a.m. ET.
