Premium Motorsports has set plans in motion to build a stronger more competitive operation in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Team owner, Jay Robinson announced today that Tommy Baldwin will take over as the team’s Competition Director and Crew Chief of the #15 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team effective immediately. “Tommy’s passion, experience and knowledge will serve Premium well in its’ quest to become more competitive in the future,” said team owner, Jay Robinson. This is the first of many changes coming to Premium. Scott Eggleston will remain at Premium as Team Manager, Pat Tryson will be moving to the crew chief position for the #55 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series entry. Premium Motorsports which began as Jay Robinson Racing in 2001 now in their 17th year of full time racing will have more announcements coming soon.
About Tommy Baldwin:
Thomas ‘Tommy’ Baldwin Jr., a Long-Island New York native grew up in and around racing, watching and learning from his father Tom Baldwin who was a NASCAR modified champion.
Since 1997, Baldwin could be found on top of the pit box calling the shots as crew chief for teams including Bill-Davis Racing, Evernham Racing and Robert Yates Racing. He worked with many drivers including: Ward Burton, Jimmy Spencer, Paul Wolf and Kasey Kahne to name a few. Baldwin has 5 wins at the NASCAR Cup level including the 2002 Daytona 500.
Baldwin became a Cup team owner in 2009 racing full time with many drivers including Geoff Bodine, Steve Park, Johnny Sauter, Ron Fellows, Casey Mears, J. J. Yeley, Dave Blaney and Regan Smith. TBR also ran the No.35 and the No.7 race cars throughout the next several years.
In 2016 Baldwin shut down full time operations and competed in a few select races. He also participated in the 2017, Daytona 500. Baldwin has now joined Premium Motorsports as their competition director as well as taking on the familiar roll as crew chief.
