Klaasmeyer Captures Fourth POWRi Driver’s Title for Toyota

One year ago, Toyota driver Tucker Klaasmeyer finished runner-up in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League championship. But he wanted to do better. Today, Klaasmeyer has made good on that notion, capturing his first POWRi championship following the cancellation of the season-finale event at Kennedale Speedway Park due to rain.

“I think overall, a lot of the success came from being focused, being more prepared, and being surrounded by the right people,” said Klaasmeyer. “It helps having guys like Jay Drake, Logan Seavey, and Spencer Bayston around who have all won their own championships and know how to make it happen. They’ve taught me countless things about what it takes to win. Then being paired with the KKM team who has multiple championships under their belts helps too. They provide me with a killer car and Toyota gives me a great engine and I just have to wheel it.”

After joining Keith Kunz Motorsports at the start of the season, Klaasmeyer posted a season-best six victories in his Toyota-powered midget car, registering 13 top-three podium finishes and 18 top-five showings. The 23-year-old Paola, Kansas native held a 590-point advantage over second place driver and Toyota teammate Ryan Robinson.

“We could not be more happy for Tucker as he celebrates his first POWRi championship,” said Laura Pierce, motorsports general manager for Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “He has dedicated his career to excelling in this sport and after years of hard work and even running for his own team, we’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone with him. Four driver titles in six years for Toyota only reinforces our commitment to grassroots racing.”

In addition to Klaasmeyer’s championship, Toyota drivers took four of the top-five spots in the POWRi standings with Robinson (second), Zach Daum (third) and Logan Seavey (fifth). Klaasmeyer is the second Toyota driver to capture a POWRi title, joining Daum (2013, 2014 and 2016).
