Macedo Wins USAC At Thunderbowl Raceway; Toyota-powered Drivers Sweep Podium

TRD

Carson Macedo passed Jacob Denney with three laps remaining to win the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series’ feature at Thunderbowl Speedway Wednesday night. Denney would finish second and Cannon McIntosh placed third as Toyota drivers swept the top-three podium.

With the win, Macedo becomes the 16th different Toyota-powered driver to win a national midget feature in 2024. Overall, Toyota drivers have taken top honors in 46 national midget features this year.

Macedo dominated most of the night, taking the lead from the green flag and proceeding to lead the first 25 laps before making contact with a lapped car with Denney taking over the top spot and Macedo falling to second as the caution flag waved.

On the restart, Macedo would close back on Denney before finally diving low heading into turn one to pass Denney on lap 28, then holding him off down the backstraight. Macedo would eventually stretch out a 1.178-second lead over Denney at the checkered flag.

McIntosh would use a late-race charge to secure the third spot from his ninth starting position. It marks his 14th top-five finish in 19 USAC events this season. With the strong showing, McIntosh now trails fellow Toyota driver and championship leader Daison Pursley by 61 points with four races remaining after Pursley finished the night in 11th-place, just his third finish outside of the top-10 this season.

The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series heads to Merced Speedway for a double-header this Friday and Saturday before closing out the 2024 season next week at Bakersfield Speedway on November 26 and the 83rd running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura Raceway on November 30.
