ARCA Menards Series at Watkins Glen International: General Tire 100 at The Glen Pre-race Notes

  • The General Tire 100 at The Glen is the 17th race of the 20-race 2024 ARCA Menards Series schedule. It will be the fifth ARCA Menards Series race at Watkins Glen International and the 31st road course race in series history.
  • Connor Zilisch (No. 28 Silver Hare Development / Chevrolet Performance Chevrolet) returns to the site of his ARCA Menards Series platform debut, which came in this race in 2023. He finished second, his worst career ARCA Menards Series finish, after being passed by eventual series champion Jesse Love in the final corner of the final lap. Zilisch, the current ARCA Menards Series East championship point standings leader, has won four of five ARCA Menards Series starts in 2024 – Dover Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, and Michigan International Speedway. His fifth start, at The Milwaukee Mile, resulted in a runner-up finish.
  • William Sawalich (No. 18 Starkey / SoundGear Toyota) will be searching for his eighth ARCA Menards Series victory of 2024 in the General Tire 100 at The Glen. Sawalich has found success on road courses this season, with an ARCA Menards Series West victory at Portland International Raceway and a win at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the first of the two ARCA Menards Series road races in 2024.
  • Andres Perez (No. 2 Max Siegel Inc. Chevrolet) heads into the General Tire 100 at The Glen with a 49-point lead over his Rev Racing teammate Lavar Scott (No. 6 Max Siegel Inc. Chevrolet). Perez finished sixth at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course earlier this season, his best career ARCA Menards Series road course finish; Scott finished 14th in his first career road course start.
  • Marco Andretti (No. 17 Group 1001 Chevrolet) has three fifth-place finishes in seven career IndyCar starts at Watkins Glen International. Andretti finished fifth at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course earlier this season, his best career ARCA Menards Series finish. Andretti’s grandfather Mario, the 1978 Formula 1 World Driving Champion, earned one of his 19 career podium finishes when he finished second at Watkins Glen in 1977.
  • Gio Ruggiero (No. 20 First Auto Group Toyota) will make his second career ARCA Menards Series road course appearance. He finished third at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in June. Ruggiero scored his first career Trans Am TA2 division victory earlier this season at Sonoma Raceway.
  • Connor Mosack (No. 23 Sigma Performance Services Chevrolet) returns to action for the first time since he finished 13th at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course; that finish belies his performance as he was battling for the win on the final lap before a penalty for a restart infraction with two laps remaining.
  • NASCAR Xfinity Series regular Brandon Jones (No. 42 Lyons Bathtubs & Showers / Menards Chevrolet) will make his first series start since 2022; he won three times in five starts that season, including at Watkins Glen International. Jones has made two ARCA Menards Series West starts in 2024; he started on the General Tire Pole and finished second at Portland International Raceway and finished eighth at Sonoma Raceway.
  • Ryan Gemmell (No. 29 Diamond Brite / TC3 Turf Toyota), the 2023 Historic Stock Car Racing series champion, will make his series debut driving for Joe Nemechek. Nemechek’s NEMCO Motorsports team won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International in1999 and 2001 respectively with Ron Fellows driving.
  • The General Tire 100 at The Glen will serve as the final round of the CGS Imaging 4 Crown, a series-within-the-series that celebrates the diversity of the ARCA Menards Series. Previous rounds this season have been at Talladega Superspeedway, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. Andres Perez leads the CGS Imaging 4 Crown standings by 22 points over Christian Rose headed into Friday’s race.
  • Previous ARCA Menards Series winners at Watkins Glen International include John Finger (2001), Corey Heim (2021), Brandon Jones (2022), and Jesse Love (2023).
  • The ARCA Menards Series track qualifying record at Watkins Glen International was set in 2023 by Corey LaJoie in 2023 at 73.280 seconds/120.360 miles per hour.
  • The race will be run under the Break Pit Stop format; there will be a five-minute break at or near lap 21 for teams to change tires, add fuel, make adjustments, and if needed, make repairs. Teams may have eight tires (plus wet weather tires) in the pit box, four for use at the break and four for emergency use. Tire changes outside of the break must be approved by ARCA officials; any unapproved tire changes will result in a two-lap penalty. Teams may change from dry weather tires to wet weather tires, or vice versa, at any time without penalty.
  • Should the race need to be extended into overtime, there will be one attempt at a one-lap “green-and-white-together followed by checkered” finish. If the caution is displayed in overtime, the field will be frozen and the race will be over.
