TOYOTA USAC: McIntosh Wins Night Two at Angell Park As Toyota Drivers Sweep USAC Podium

Toyota Racing Development

Cannon McIntosh took the lead on lap two of 30 and never looked back in leading a Toyota one-two-three finish in Monday night’s NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series Firemen’s Nationals at Angell Park Speedway as Daison Pursley placed second and Zach Wigal coming home in third.

McIntosh’s victory is his ninth national midget feature win of the season and the 43rd of his career. It is his second this season in USAC competition and gives him four consecutive podium finishes. The triumph also gave Toyota a sweep of the two-night Firemen’s Nationals after Wigal took home top honors on Sunday night, narrowly edging out McIntosh for the win.

Wigal would open Monday’s race by jumping from third to first to lead lap one, but it wouldn’t last long as McIntosh would overtake him in turn four on lap two.

McIntosh would continue to run upfront, while Pursley would move up into second on lap six with Wigal, Rylan Gray and Justin Grant rounding out the top five.

As the race crossed the midway point, McIntosh had opened up a 1.186-second lead over Pursley, but Pursley would begin to cut the lead down in the final 10 laps. By lap 23, he had narrowed his deficit down to .760 seconds and then down to .380 with four laps remaining, but he didn’t quite have enough to get past McIntosh, who would win by .554 seconds over Pursley, with Wigal finishing third.  Ryan Timms placed fourth and Grant was fifth as Toyota drivers captured the top five finishing positions.

Pursley and McIntosh continue to hold down the top two spots in the championship standings.

The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series is back in action with two nights of racing at Eldora Speedway on September 20-21.
