No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra News and Notes:

  • CREED AT DAYTONA: Sheldon Creed heads into Daytona International Speedway following back-to-back runner-up finishes at the track, including a narrow loss in last year’s Wawa 250. Throughout the length of his young Xfinity Series career, it has been boom-or-bust for Creed at Daytona, as he has scored three top-tens and three DNFs across six starts. In total, Creed holds an average finish of 19.0 at Daytona highlighted by two top-fives, three top-10s, and 28 laps led.
  • MICHIGAN RECAP: Creed’s weekend started off strong as he secured his second pole of the season and led the field to green on Saturday afternoon. After leading the first 23 laps, Creed spun out from the lead and consequently lost his premier track position. Creed rebounded quickly from the incident and even managed to score stage points in stage two with an eighth-place finish. Creed continued to fight his way back in the final stage, making his way all the way up to second, thus putting him in contention on the final restart. After a caution came out on the final lap, Creed finished the day with a runner-up finish, marking his fourth second-place run of the year.
  • TOP FIVE LEADER: With his second-place finish in Michigan, Creed is now the sole leader for top-five finishes in the Xfinity Series with 10. Creed also holds a three race streak of top-fives dating back to his fifth-place finish in Pocono.
  • STUCK ON SILVER: Creed’s second-place finish at Michigan marked his 11th career second-place finish in the Xfinity Series. The most recent runner-up performance placed Creed in sole possession of the NXS record for second-place finishes without a win. Remarkably, 52% (11/21) of his career top-fives have been second-place results.
  • FRIENDS OF JACLYN FOUNDATION: Founded in 2005, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers while raising awareness for said diseases. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local teams, clubs, and community groups. FOJ has currently made over 1000 adoptions and their mission is to continue to raise awareness through our Adopt-A-Child, Safe on the Sidelines, and Guardian Angel Programs.
  • ON THE PITBOX: Crew chief Sam McAulay will lead the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra crew this season. Despite his rookie status, McAulay is an established mind at JGR as he joined the organization in 2007 and worked his way up the ranks from intern to lead race engineer for the No. 11 Cup Series entry of Denny Hamlin. Since the start of his tenure on the No. 11 in 2017, McAulay has contributed to 25 victories, including three Daytona 500 wins and a Coke 600 win as a crew chief when he filled-in for the suspended Chris Gabehart in 2022.
  • JGR AT DAYTONA: Joe Gibbs Racing owns four Xfinity Series wins at Daytona International Speedway, including victories by Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, and most recently Matt Kenseth in 2013. In 124 combined starts at the track, the organization has tallied 32 top-five finishes, 52 top-10s, nine pole awards, and 752 laps led.

  • RACE INFO: Coverage of this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway is scheduled for Friday, August 23rd, at 7:30 p.m. ET on USA Network, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Sheldon Creed, Driver of the No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra:

“You have back-to-back second place finishes at Daytona, including this race last year. What’s it going to take to finish one spot better this week?”

“A good push and even better luck. It’s been feast or famine at Daytona for me so far and that’s helped me realize the importance of making it to the end. If things go our way, I feel good about our ability to put ourselves in contention. From there we just have to hope that the cards fall in a way that give me a chance to execute in the final laps. If that happens, I like our chances.”
