No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra News and Notes:

  • CREED AT MICHIGAN: Sheldon Creed and the No. 18 GR Supra crew return from the Xfinity Series’ three-week hiatus to run the Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Creed has two prior NXS starts at the 2-mile oval and has finished just shy of the top 10 both times, as he scored finishes of 11th and 12th in his two starts, respectively. Creed is familiar with victory lane in the Irish Hills as he scored an ARCA Menards Series victory at the track in 2018.
  • INDY RECAP: After starting from the rear due to an engine change, Creed managed to overcome adversity and earn a fifth-place finish on the day. Creed managed to make it all the way up to 17th by the end of stage one, and even earned a stage point with a 10th place in stage two. The strong comeback led to Creed’s ninth top five of the year.
  • TOP FIVE LEADER: With his fourth-place finish in Pocono, Creed is now tied with Austin Hill and Cole Custer for the most top-fives in the Xfinity Series. The three drivers have each scored eight top-five finishes on the season.
  • STUCK ON SILVER: Creed’s second-place finish at New Hampshire marked his tenth career second-place finish in the Xfinity Series. Not only does that tie Creed with Daniel Hemric and Dale Jarrett for most second-place finishes without a win, but it also means that 50% (10/20) of his career top-fives have been second-place results.
  • FRIENDS OF JACLYN FOUNDATION: Founded in 2005, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers while raising awareness for said diseases. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local teams, clubs, and community groups. FOJ has currently made over 1000 adoptions and their mission is to continue to raise awareness through our Adopt-A-Child, Safe on the Sidelines, and Guardian Angel Programs.
  • ON THE PITBOX: Crew chief Sam McAulay will lead the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra crew this season. Despite his rookie status, McAulay is an established mind at JGR as he joined the organization in 2007 and worked his way up the ranks from intern to lead race engineer for the No. 11 Cup Series entry of Denny Hamlin. Since the start of his tenure on the No. 11 in 2017, McAulay has contributed to 25 victories, including three Daytona 500 wins and a Coke 600 win as a crew chief when he filled-in for the suspended Chris Gabehart in 2022.
  • JGR AT MICHIGAN: Joe Gibbs Racing owns seven Xfinity Series wins at Michigan International Speedway, including victories by Ty Gibbs and John Hunter Nemechek the past two years. In 59 combined starts at the track, the organization has tallied 24 top-five finishes, 38 top-10s, two pole awards, and 557 laps led. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, and Daniel Suárez join Gibbs and Nemechek on the list of drivers who have taken JGR to victory lane at Michigan.

  • RACE INFO: Coverage of this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Michigan International Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, at 3:30 p.m. ET on USA Network, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Sheldon Creed, Driver of the No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra:

“A three-week break is unique in this sport. How did this time off affect your mindset going into the remainder of this season?”

“It was a good reset. I enjoyed the down time with my family and the chance to get my mind right, but I’m also itching to get back to the track. I think the whole team is in a good place to capitalize on the rest of the season and build some momentum going into the playoffs. We’re so close to where we want to be and these guys have been working hard over the break to bridge that gap, so I feel great heading into this weekend.”
