ARCA Menards Series at The Illinois State Fairgrounds: Springfield ARCA 100 Pre-race Notes

  • The Springfield ARCA 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds will be the 14th race of the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season, and the first of two races on one-mile Illinois fairgrounds dirt tracks, paired with the race at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds over Labor Day weekend. It will be the 42nd ARCA Menards Series race at the Illinois State Fairgrounds dating to the first in 1983.
  • Andres Perez (No. 2 Max Siegel Inc. Chevrolet) leads the ARCA Menards Series championship standings heading into the doubleheader weekend at Michigan International Speedway on Friday and Springfield on Sunday. Perez, a native of Mexico City with very little previous dirt racing experience, finished second in his first career Springfield start in 2023.
  • Lavar Scott (No. 6 Max Siegel Inc. Chevrolet) will make his first career Springfield start on Sunday but will be coming in with a wealth of experience racing on dirt. Scott began his career racing karts and micro sprints on dirt in and around his home in Carney’s Point, New Jersey, and races frequently at Millbridge Speedway in Concord, North Carolina when his schedule permits.
  • Venturini Motorsports will field cars for four female drivers, a record for most female drivers on one team in major league stock car history. In addition to full-time drivers Amber Balcaen (No. 22 ICON Direct Toyota) and Toni Breidinger (No. 25 Sunoco Toyota), the team will also see Isabella Robusto (No. 20 JBL Toyota) and Taylor Reimer (No. 55 BuzzBalls Toyota) in action. Robusto has a pair of second-place finishes across the ARCA Menards Series platform at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway (ARCA Menards Series East) and Irwindale Speedway (ARCA Menards Series West), while Reimer finished eighth last year at Springfield in her series debut.
  • Veteran Dale Quarterley (No. 4 Van Dyk Recycling / Motul Chevrolet) will make his second career start at the Illinois State Fairground. The most successful privateer in AMA SuperBike history, and a six-time winner in the ARCA Menards Series East, Quarterley made his first Springfield start last year and was running near the top five when he was involved in a crash not of his doing, shortening his day. Quarterley finished an ARCA Menards Series career-best fifth at both road course races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Watkins Glen International in 2023.
  • The 21 cars entered represents an increase from 19 in 2023 and is tied for the most since 2017 when 26 cars were entered; 21 cars were also entered in 2019 and 2022.
  • The Springfield ARCA 100 is one half of the Performance Seed Dirt Double, paired with the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on September 1. If a driver wins both races held on one-mile dirt tracks, they will earn a $20,000 bonus. If no driver wins both, the driver with the highest average finish in both races will earn $7500, the driver with the second highest average finish will earn $5,000, and the driver with the third highest average finish will earn $2,500.
  • Previous ARCA Menards Series winners at the Illinois State Fairgrounds include Dean Roper (1983, 1985, 1986), Bobby Jacks (1984), Bob Keselowski (1987, 1988, 1989, 1993), Bob Brevak (1990), Bobby Bowsher (1991, 1992), Bob Hill (1994), Bill Thomas (1995), Tim Steele (1996, 1997), Ken Schrader (1998), Bill Baird (1999, 2004), Frank Kimmel (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2012), Justin Allgaier (2007), Parker Kligerman (2009), Patrick Sheltra (2010), Chad McCumbee (2011), Brenna Poole (2013), Kevin Swindell (2014), A.J. • The race will be run under the Break Pit Stop format; there will be a five-minute break at or near lap 50 for teams to change tires, add fuel, make adjustments, and if needed, make repairs. Teams may have eight tires in the pit box, four for use at the break and four for emergency use. Tire changes outside of the break must be approved by ARCA officials; any unapproved tire changes will result in a two-lap penalty.
  • Should the race need to be extended into overtime, there will be unlimited attempts at a two-lap “green-white-checkered” finish. If the caution is displayed after the white flag is displayed, there will be unlimited attempts at a one-lap “green and white together” finish.
