NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor Jeb Burton is returning to his hometown track to compete in the twin 75-lap Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division races that headline the Davenport Energy Race Night event on Saturday night, August 3 at South Boston Speedway.

The event will mark Burton’s second time behind the wheel of a Late Model Stock Car this season. He will be driving the No. 27 Chevrolet sponsored by Talbert’s Building Supply, State Water Heaters, Capital City Towing and Grand Spring Premium Spring Water.

“I love coming back here to South Boston Speedway,” remarked Burton who drives for Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. “It’s special. It’s a hometown race for me. I live five minutes away from the racetrack. I will have a lot of friends and family here. My girlfriend will be able to come and bring her kids, so that will be special.”

The two-time winner on the NASCAR Xfinity Series and winner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series says this weekend’s event is all about having fun.

“I’m coming to have fun,” Burton pointed out. “That’s really why I’m doing it. We have three weeks off on the NASCAR Xfinity Series side, so I just want to come, try to race, hopefully put on a good show, and have a chance to win. I turn 32 on August 6 so it would be a pretty cool birthday present to win and have a good showing here.”

Burton is optimistic about having a good night in Saturday night’s Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division twinbill.

“I haven’t driven the car since the Orange Krush event at Orange County Speedway, and we finished sixth against great competition,” Burton noted. “It’s a really good car. I feel we should be good. I hope we will have a lot of speed and we can have a chance at the pole, lead every lap, and have a chance to win.”
While Burton is optimistic about his prospects for a good outing this weekend, he knows it will be a tough task competing against the drivers that regularly compete in the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway.

“It’s tough to show up at somebody’s house and try to beat them,” Burton said. “Peyton (Sellers) and all of the guys that are here at South Boston Speedway are good. It’s going to be tough, so we’re going to have to be on our “A” game.

“I want to race everybody with respect,” Burton added. “These guys are racing here every week, and I just want to have fun, try to put on a good show, try to win, and bring the car back clean.”

Six races are slated as part of the August 3 Davenport Energy Race Night event. In addition to the pair of 75-lap Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division races fans will see a 50-lap race for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division, twin 15-lap races for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division, and a 20-lap race for the Virginia State Police HEAT Hornets Division.

The competition has been intense through the first 11 races in South Boston Speedway’s Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division with six different drivers – Peyton Sellers, Craig Moore, Blake Stallings, Jacob Borst, Kyle Dudley and Connor Hall earning wins.

Sellers leads Stallings by 28 points in the chase for the division title, and Mike Looney sits in third place 36 points out of the lead entering Saturday night’s twinbill.

In the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division, defending division champion Jason Myers leads Eric Winslow by a narrow four-point margin heading into Saturday’s event with Nathan Crews in third place 18 points behind Myers. Drew Dawson has moved into fourth place 26 points out of the lead, and Cory Dunn is in fifth place 29 points out of the lead.

While Johnny Layne has won four of the six Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division races run thus far, the division championship points battle remains very close. Layne leads B.J. Reaves by a slim nine-point margin with Zach Reaves sitting in third place just 15 points behind Layne. Colby Pool and Dillon Davis are tied for fourth place 36 points behind Layne.

There is an extremely close points battle in the Virginia State Police Heat Hornets Division. Sixteen-year-old Jordaine Penick leads her teammate, 15-year-old Max Sangillo, by five points entering Saturday’s event. Landon Milam is in third place 20 points out of the lead. Cameron Moss is fourth, 21 points out of the lead, and Daniel Byrd sits in fifth-place 22 points out of the lead.
