The biggest winner’s prize and largest purse of the season for South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division will be on the line when South Boston Speedway hosts the Kenny Meadows Limited Sportsman Memorial Feature Race on Saturday night, August 17.

Speedway officials have announced a $2,500 prize for the winner with purse increases throughout the field for the 50-lap race that honors the late Kenny Meadows who passed away December 7, 2021 at age 56 due to COVID-19. Meadows was a life-long racing enthusiast who was crew chief for his son’s racing efforts and helped other teams throughout the years as well.

“We are extremely proud to host this special event for our Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division competitors that honors the memory of the late Kenny Meadows,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Brandon Brown. “Thanks to his widow, Debra Meadows, her sponsors, and the efforts of Limited Sportsman competitor Eric Winslow and many other sponsors, our Limited Sportsman Division competitors have the opportunity to take center stage and compete in a big money race. We appreciate them and their partners helping make this special race possible.”

Meadows was described as a loving family man and a true racing enthusiast.
“Kenneth loved his family and loved racing,” said Debra Meadows. “He was a wonderful son, husband, father, son-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle. You could count on him being at the track as a crew chief for his son, or in the stands pulling for his friends, or in the pits helping other teams. Most people called him Kenny, and he was a friend to all.”

Kenny Meadows got his son into racing at age 7 in Mini Wedges, at age 11 moved him up to a Bandolero, and at age 14 moved him to a Limited Late Model.

Sponsors who have jumped in to help increase the purse throughout the field are Skynet Technologies LLC, Martin’s Autobody and Restoration, Meeks Recycling, the Meadows Family, Sellers Racing Inc., Mincey’s Graphics, Anderson Outdoor Solutions, Billy’s A/C Service, WG Speeks, Tanner Racing Engines and Helical Precision Inc. HPI will also award a new shifter to the Limited Sportsman pole winner and a set of caliper bolts to a randomly drawn Limited Sportsman competitor on race night.

In addition to the $2,500 winner’s prize and the purse increases throughout the field, Winslow and Roof Masters are posting a $250 Limited Sportsman Pole Award and Limited Sportsman competitor Bob Davis and Aqua Pros are posting a $250 Hard Charger Award for the feature. More bonuses and prizes will be announced later.
