No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota Camry XSE News and Notes

  • HAMLIN AT INDIANAPOLIS: Denny Hamlin has posted five top-five finishes and eight top-10s in 15 career NASCAR Cup Series starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In the most recent race on the 2.5-mile oval in 2020, Hamlin led 19 laps and finished 28th after suffering a blown right-front tire while leading in the closing laps. In the six races before that, Hamlin posted five finishes of sixth or better from 2014 to 2019.
  • POCONO RECAP: Hamlin finished second and posted a season-high 54 points in last Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway. After starting fourth, he finished second in stage one and won stage two. He lined up fourth for the final restart with 23 laps to go before ultimately running out of time in his attempt to catch race winner Ryan Blaney.
  • INDY TEST: Hamlin and the No. 11 team participated in a two-day Goodyear tire test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 4-5.
  • FRONT RUNNER: Hamlin leads the Cup Series in multiple statistical categories according to Loop Data provided by NASCAR. He currently leads the series in green flag speed, fastest on restarts, fastest drivers late in a run, and laps in the top 15. Through 21 races, Hamlin has spent 321 more laps in the top 15 than the next closest competitor. After leading 31 laps at Pocono, Hamlin’s 751 laps led this season are only three behind the overall leader in that category.
  • SPORT CLIPS: Sport Clips will be featured as the primary sponsor for Hamlin this weekend in Indianapolis. The sports-themed haircutting franchise based in Georgetown, Texas is a longtime supporter of Joe Gibbs Racing dating back to 2009 and has nearly 1,900 stores in the United States and Canada. What do you expect racing on the Indianapolis oval again?

“It certainly will be a track position-type racetrack. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be wild on restarts. I think you’ll have restarts very similar to Pocono where guys are trying to fit in spots that are not there and you’re talking about a track that is even narrower than what Pocono is. Indy is one lane, not one and a half. We all know being on the outside is not going to be preferred, so you’re going to want to be on the bottom. What’s going to happen is we’re going to go down these long straightaways and everyone is going to try to go three-wide bottom and you’re probably going to see a lot of wrecks late if there are restarts to bunch us up.”
