No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota Camry XSE News and Notes

  • HAMLIN AT CHICAGO: Denny Hamlin won the pole award for last year’s inaugural Chicago Street Course. In the race, Hamlin raced inside the top 15 for much of the event before ultimately finishing 11th.
  • NASHVILLE RECAP: Hamlin finished 12th in last weekend’s race at Nashville Superspeedway after relinquishing the lead because he was short on fuel following the third of five overtimes. Prior to that, he spent most of the race inside the top five and made what appeared to be the race-winning pass with seven laps remaining. He fended off challenges on the first three overtime restarts before crew chief Chris Gabehart was forced to bring him to pit road for fuel.
  • HISTORY OF THE 11: Throughout NASCAR history, the No. 11 has visited victory lane more than any other car number. Hamlin’s win at Dover Motor Speedway was the 234th time a No. 11 car has won in the Cup Series. For Hamlin, his 54 victories driving the No. 11 are only one behind NASCAR Hall of Famer Cale Yarborough for most on the illustrious list of drivers who have wheeled a No. 11 car to victory lane. That list includes Bobby Allison (3 wins), Mario Andretti (1 win), Buddy Baker (2 wins), Geoffrey Bodine (4 wins), Bill Elliott (6 wins), A.J. Foyt (1 win), Denny Hamlin (54 wins), Ned Jarrett (49 wins), Junior Johnson (11 wins), Parnelli Jones (1 win), Terry Labonte (4 wins), Darrell Waltrip (43 wins), and Cale Yarborough (55 wins).
  • FRONT RUNNER: Hamlin leads the Cup Series in multiple statistical categories according to Loop Data provided by NASCAR. He currently leads the series in fastest drivers late in a run, fastest on restarts, green flag speed, and laps in the top 15. Through 19 races, Hamlin has spent 285 more laps in the top 15 than the next closest competitor.
  • SPORT CLIPS: Sport Clips will be featured as the primary sponsor for Hamlin this weekend in Chicago. The sports-themed haircutting franchise based in Georgetown, Texas is a longtime supporter of Joe Gibbs Racing dating back to 2009 and has nearly 1,900 stores in the United States and Canada. • JGR AT CHICAGO: Ty Gibbs led Joe Gibbs Racing with a ninth-place finish in last year’s inaugural Chicago Street Race. In addition to Gibbs’ strong finish, highlights of the event for JGR included Hamlin securing the pole award as well as Christopher Bell leading a race-high 37 laps and winning both stages.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s Chicago Street Race begins Sunday, July 7, at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

What were your takeaways from last season’s Chicago Street Race?

“I thought it was a great event. The weather was certainly unfortunate, but it was a great atmosphere, and it got a lot of buzz with people talking about it and tuning it. I’m optimistic about going back. Hopefully the weather is a little better so that we’re able to have all the festivities and concerts that we didn’t get to have last year. On the track, I had a lot of fun when it was dry, not so much in the wet. We had such an amazing car to win the pole and be really fast from the first lap of practice. I hope we can put together the same kind of effort this year to see where we stack up.”
