ARCA Menards Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course – Zinsser SmartCoat 150 Pre-race Notes

  The Zinsser SmartCoat 150 will be the eighth race of 20 that make up the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season. It will be the first of two road course races this season. It will be the series’ 1561st race dating to the first, held at Dayton Speedway in Dayton, Ohio, in May 1953. It will be the fifth ARCA Menards Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the 30th road course race in series history.

·       Andres Perez (No. 2 Max Siegel Inc Chevrolet) leads the ARCA Menards Series championship standings by 33 points over Greg Van Alst (No. 35 headed into Mid-Ohio. Perez has six top-ten finishes in seven starts so far in 2024 with a best finish of third at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Perez finished 15th at Mid-Ohio and 12th at Watkins Glen in his two previous ARCA Menards Series road course starts in 2023. Van Alst finished 12th and 13th at Mid-Ohio and Watkins Glen, respectively, in 2022.

·       Reigning ARCA Menards Series East champion William Sawalich (No. 18 Starkey/SoundGear Toyota) is entered as he looks for his second ARCA Menards Series platform road course win of the season. Sawalich won the ARCA Menards Series West race at Portland International Raceway three weeks ago.

·       Connor Mosack (No. 28 Chevrolet Performance Chevrolet) returns to the ARCA Menards Series for the fourth time in 2024 and for the first time since a disappointing 27th-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway. He scored his second career ARCA Menards Series victory at Kansas Speedway in April. The Pinnacle Racing Group team has three ARCA Menards Series wins already in 2024; in addition to the Kansas victory the team has wins at Dover Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway with Connor Zilisch behind the wheel. Additionally, Zilisch leads the ARCA Menards Series East championship standings.

·       Conor Daly (No. 30 Rette Jones Racing Ford) will make his ARCA Menards Series debut at Mid-Ohio. Daly has 109 career NTT Data IndyCar Series starts with a best finish of second at Belle Isle in 2016. He finished tenth in the 2024 Indianapolis 500. He has eight career IndyCar starts at Mid-Ohio with a best finish of sixth, also in 2016.

·       Thomas Annunziata (No. 44 Bayshore Mortgage/Franklin Rd. Apparel Chevrolet) returns for his third start of the season and first since he finished 12th at Talladega Superspeedway. Annunziata finished second in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway and is a noted road course specialist; he finished ninth in the Trans Am Series points in 2023 and won the season finale at Circuit of the Americas. Previous ARCA Menards Series winners at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course include Jack Bowsher (1965), Ty Gibbs (2021), Taylor Gray (2022), and Tyler Ankrum (2023).

·       The ARCA Menards Series track qualifying record at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was set in 2023 by Sean Hingorani at 88.439 seconds/91.914 miles per hour.

·       The ARCA Menards Series race record Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was set in 2021 by Ty Gibbs at 1 hour, 19 minutes, 21 seconds/71.456 miles per hour.

·       There will be a five-minute break at or near lap 21; teams can change tires and add fuel (not simultaneously), make adjustments and repairs. Tires can only be changed at the break; the only time tires can be changed outside of the break is to go from wets to dry tires, or dry tires to wets.  Any change between similar tread pattern outside of the break must be approved by ARCA officials or will result in a two-lap penalty.  

·       Should the race need to be extended into overtime, there will be one attempt at a at a one-lap “green and white together” finish. Should the caution flag be displayed in overtime, the field will be frozen and the race will finish under caution.
