The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series overturned the results of the Club Challenge event at the Autodromo di Vallelunga, Italy. Andreas Kuchelbacher was declared the winner of the event with a total of 75 points in the two sessions. Reza Sardeha moved up to second place with 70 points, level on points with Bruno Costa, who finished third. Reigning champion Gordon Barnes, originally in first place, dropped to fourth with 69 points, while Federico Monti completed the top-5.
A technical problem – a glitch in the software – led to a miscalculation of the drivers’ five closest laps to the reference times in the sessions. An intensive investigation by EuroNASCAR led to the revision of the results after Kuchelbacher filed an official complaint against the results calculated at the track. The Austrian Speedhouse driver’s claim was right and it gave him the overall win of the Club Challenge in Italy.
The overall points standings changed significantly together with the results: Gordon Barnes still leads the championship, but the three-time champion is now only two points ahead of Monti and four points ahead of Kuchelbacher, who made a big jump towards the top of the standings by finishing first in the first session at Vallelunga and fourth in the second session. Eduard Fatio follows in fourth ahead of Sardeha, who was second in the second session in Italy. Costa took his first session win in the second run of the regularity-based challenge at Vallelunga.
The 2024 Club Challenge season will resume after the summer break at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. The EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 drivers will now head to the United Kingdom for the eleventh edition of the popular American SpeedFest at the Indy Circuit of Brands Hatch on June 8-9. Qualifying and all races will be broadcast live on EuroNASCAR’s YouTube channel and on numerous television networks around the world.
