No. 20 Safeway/Albertsons Toyota GR Supra News and Notes

  • LAS VEGAS WIN NOTES: John Hunter Nemechek picked up his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the season and the 10th of his career (103 starts) in last weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After starting 12th, he rocketed into the top five on lap four and took the lead for the first time on lap 56. He finished second in both stages behind his JGR teammate Chandler Smith. At the end of the day, Nemechek led a race-high 99 laps and cruised to victory by more than four seconds over second place. The No. 20 team’s victory also marked crew chief Tyler Allen’s first win as a crew chief in only his third start.
  • NEMECHEK AT PHOENIX: Nemechek has posted two top-five finishes and six top-10s in seven career Xfinity Series starts at Phoenix Raceway. Last season, Nemechek led 85 laps combined between the two races at Phoenix. He finished sixth in the spring and 28th in the season finale after a flat right-front tire on an overtime restart spoiled his championship bid. Phoenix was also the site of Nemechek’s first career Xfinity Series pole award in November 2018. He also owns three top-five finishes and six top-10s in nine career NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts at the one-mile tri-oval.
  • NEMECHEK’S XFINITY SERIES SCHEDULE: As he transitions to full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Nemechek is slated to compete in 10 total Xfinity Series races for Joe Gibbs Racing this season. Beyond Phoenix, he is scheduled to be behind the wheel of the No. 20 Toyota GR Supra at Circuit of the Americas (March 23), Sonoma Raceway (June 8), Iowa Speedway (June 15), Nashville Superspeedway (June 29), the Chicago Street Course (July 6), and Michigan International Speedway (August 17).
  • SAFEWAY / ALBERTSONS: Nemechek’s No. 20 Toyota GR Supra will feature Safeway and Albertsons as the primary sponsor this weekend at Phoenix Raceway. Safeway is supermarket chain with more than 900 locations across the United States operating as a banner of Albertsons Companies, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States and the District of Columbia.
  • JGR AT PHOENIX: Joe Gibbs Racing owns 16 Xfinity Series wins at Phoenix Raceway. In 116 combined starts at the track, the organization has racked up 50 top-five finishes, 81 top-10s, 21 pole awards, and 3,442 laps led. Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs, Daniel Hemric, Brandon Jones, Joey Logano, and Sammy Smith have all driven JGR entries to victory lane in Phoenix.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Phoenix Raceway is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Talk about going to Phoenix this weekend…

“I’m looking forward to going to Phoenix this weekend. It’s a little bittersweet because we had such a good season last year and didn’t win Phoenix last fall to get the championship, but I know we’ll have another fast Toyota GR Supra when we unload. Tyler (Allen, crew chief) and our guys did an amazing job last week getting our car from where it was in practice to how fast it was in the race. That gives me a lot of confidence going into Saturday that we can perform just as well.”
