Derek Hagar returns to action this weekend with a USCS Series doubleheader.
Hagar, who has had the last two weeks off, will compete on Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
“I don’t think it really matters to have chunks of time off,” he said. “Once I put that helmet on it’s like we haven’t missed anything. I know the job I need to do and the crew knows what they need to do. Sometimes it helps you not to race each week.”
Hagar won the USCS Series Speedweek opener at Lexington 104 Speedway in late May.
“You have to have a good draw at Lexington to make sure you get good points in your heat race so you start up front in the feature,” he said. “That track doesn’t have a lot of passing. You hope you can get clean air early and maneuver through traffic well.”
Hagar has earned two 360ci winged sprint car wins and two 305ci winged sprint car victories at Riverside International Speedway this season.
“We’ve been fortunate at Riverside whether it’s a 360 or 305,” he said. “Billy and the crew at Riverside have done a good job the last couple of months having to fight with weather. This week the weather is going to be beautiful.
“The key is to keep your nose clean. You kinda want a bad pill draw to get some passing points in the heat race to set yourself up for the feature.”
Hagar enters the weekend with a series-best seven wins in eight USCS Series feature starts this season.
