Dover Extends Sprint Car Winning Streak to 19 Years in a Row

Jack Dover recorded his first feature triumph of the season on Sunday, giving him at least one victory in each of the last 19 seasons.

“It’s awesome to keep the streak going,” he said. “I’ve primarily raced 360s and 410s so I’d rather be winning races in those divisions, but it was special to put together a 305 team for the Loos Family and win in our second race together. Plus, the 305 is a tough class at Huset’s. At the end of the day there’s more competitors in that class than 410s and I think it can be harder to win. One bobble and you lose all your momentum.”

Dover ran double duty at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday, driving a 305ci winged sprint car for Shawn Loos and a 410ci winged sprint car for Rick and Chris Bowers. The night began with Dover timing in 17 th quickest before advancing from sixth to fifth place in a heat race in the 410 division. He was running inside the top 15 in the main event when he pulled off midway through the race.

“The throttle linkage broke,” he said. “I was having to control it more so with my foot, but I had to reach down a couple of times with my hand. We were maintaining inside the top 15. The first couple of laps I thought we had a fifth or sixth-place car, but with having that problem it was messing my lines up and I didn’t want to plow the car into the wall or wreck someone so I exited the race early.”

Dover’s second start of the season in a 305 yielded a sweep of the night as he won both a heat race and the A Main.

“We went there a month and a half ago and had issues so we weren’t able to race in the main event,” he said. “It’s pretty awesome to win so quickly. It’s hard to go out with a brand new team and do that right away.

“We had some issues at the beginning of the night and worked through it. In hot laps the car wouldn’t run. We were loaded up. I happened to check the fuel system and somehow the secondary got flipped around. I changed it and everything was fine for the heat race. We won that and then got put on the pole of the main event because we didn’t have a points average. I was able to lead all the laps in that. We had a great car. I think we had a car that could win no matter where we started.”

Dover plans to race for Loos this Friday and Saturday at Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kan., during the 305 Sprint Car Nationals.
