Derek Hagar will climb behind the wheel of the McCord Farms 305ci winged sprint car this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.
Hagar has earned a trio of feature wins at the dirt oval in West Memphis, Ark., this season, including one of his two triumphs in the McCord Farms sprint car.
“Mr. McCord just likes having fun,” he said. “He’s real laid back and doesn’t apply any pressure. As long as you’re having fun he’s okay. I always joke with him and ask if he’s ready to win. We’ve had two good runs with it this year. He’s the most ideal car owner you could ask for. He’s loves racing and to watch the excitement and enjoyment from him from the wins and good finishes makes it enjoyable.”
Hagar earned his first feature victory of the season in the No. 42 on May 20. The pairing was also victorious on June 9 at Crowleys Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark.
“Mr. McCord has really nice equipment,” he said. “I charge the corners as hard as I would in my 360. In the 305 everything is a little slower. I tend to overdrive the car trying to get to the center of the corner faster. I have to remind myself from time to time it’s a 305.
“The only goal is to win. Whenever you jump in Mr. McCord’s car, it has proven itself with me and Marshall (Skinner) driving it and most anybody who jumps in that car, there’s no reason you shouldn’t win. It’s about making sure luck is on your side and staying out of trouble.”
