ARCA Menards Series West at Sonoma Raceway – General Tire 200 Post-race Notes

Sonoma Raceway

  • Ryan Preece started from the General Tire Pole and led 50 of the race’s 64 laps en route to the victory in Friday’s ARCA Menards Series West General Tire 200 at Sonoma Raceway. Preece, who drives for Stewart Haas Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series and finished 13thin Sunday’s Toyota/Save-Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race, won in just his second series start.
  • ARCA Menards Series West championship leader Landen Lewis started second and challenged Preece early, taking the lead during a cycle of pit stops at lap 19. However, Lewis’ day turned sour after the scheduled caution at the midway point. He was involved in a scuffle at lap 47, resulting in damage to his right front suspension leaving him 19th at the finish. It’s his first finish worse than second in 2023.
  • Two-time ARCA Menards Series East champion Sammy Smith finished second in his first West appearance since winning the 2022 season finale at Phoenix Raceway.
  • Riley Herbst rebounded from a DNF last week at Portland International Raceway to match his best career West finish, third.
  • Jack Wood also matched his best career West finish in fourth.
  • William Sawalich made his third West start of 2023 and finished fifth, his second top-five of the season. He finished fourth last week at Portland.
  • Two-time West winner Sean Hingorani rebounded from a last-corner incident at Portland that knocked him out of second place dropped him out of the top ten to finish sixth.
  • Bradley Erickson finished seventh and combined with Landen Lewis’ 19th-place finish becomes the only West driver to have finished in the top ten in each of the series’ first five races in 2023.
  • Todd Souza rebounded from an early out at Portland to finish eighth, his 63rd career West top-ten finish.
  • Johnny Borneman III made a rare West start, finishing ninth. His last start with the series was in July 2021 at Irwindale Speedway and also resulted in a ninth-place finish.
  • Ethan Nascimento celebrated his 16th birthday with a tenth-place finish, his second top-ten result of 2023. He finished a career-best eighth at Kern County Raceway Park in April.
  • The race was slowed six times by cautions for 19 laps.
  • Preece’s 9.675 second margin of victory was the largest of 2023 across the ARCA Menards Series platform.
  • The next race for the ARCA Menards Series West is the NAPA BlueDEF 150 at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday, July 1. The race is scheduled for a 10 pm ET/7 pm PT green flag and can be streamed live on FloRacing.
