With 600 round wins under his belt, Robert Hight is looking to take the AAA New England / Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS to another winner’s circle at this weekend’s NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway.
Hight is just the 13th driver in NHRA pro drag racing history to win 600 competitive rounds, a mark he reached with a first-round win at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals after qualifying No. 1. His qualifying efforts extended his record of having qualified No.1 at least once and won at least once in every season that he has contested the championship (18). The AAA Chevy currently sits third in the overall championship standings after six events thanks to two victories at the Charlotte Four-Wide Nationals and NHRA Arizona Nationals.
“It’s been a decent season so far. Things are coming around and we’re finding some consistency. I’m excited to be driving the AAA Chevy this weekend. Hoping we can get the job done for them at New England Dragway,” Hight said. “I’ve gotten close to winning a couple times in Epping. Would be pretty great to get the job done this weekend, mark another one off, move up in points and get AAA in the winner’s circle.”
The NHRA New England Nationals is the only current event in which Hight has not yet hoisted the winners’ trophy. That said, he has taken his AAA Chevy Camaro SS to the final round the last two years, dropping an all-JFR final to teammate John Force in 2021 before losing to Matt Hagan a year ago. Hight has qualified No. 1 in 2014 and 2017, setting the current track records of 3.822 seconds and 336.74 mph in 2017.
The NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway starts with qualifying Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 and 5:30 p.m. Sunday eliminations are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Television coverage will be aired on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET, Saturday at 9:00 p.m. ET, and eliminations are slated to begin Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET.
