Big Game Motorsports posted a top-five outing with the High Limit Sprint Car Series and rebounded for a top 10 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series during a pair of races last week.
The action kicked off a week ago Tuesday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the $50,000-to-win Shane Stewart’s Heartland of America Showdown presented by Team Trackhouse. David Gravel led the No. 2 team to the sixth quickest qualifying time in their group before placing third in a heat race.
The solid beginning to the night locked Gravel into the 12th starting position in the A Main. It didn’t take long for Gravel to find the top groove and he used it to his advantage, maneuvering to the top five within the first few laps. The High Limit Sprint Car Series utilizes a choose cone for the restarts like NASCAR and Gravel selected the outside groove multiple times as the race featured several cautions.
Some double-file restarts worked in his favor while others didn’t as Gravel duked it out in the top five for most of the feature, climbing as high as second place before ending fourth.
The team returned to World of Outlaws action on Friday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 during the opening night of the I-55 Outlaw Showdown. Gravel timed in seventh quickest before he won both a heat race and the dash to garner the pole position for the main event.
Gravel led 23 of the first 24 laps before contact from a fellow competitor sent him spinning and eventually to the work area with a flat tire. The team replaced the tire and Gravel rallied from the back of the field to finish 10th during the final third of the race.
Saturday’s event finale rained out.
Next up for the team is a two-night show at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday. Gravel has captured 10 victories at the half-mile oval during his career.
