He saved the best for last — and won the championship.
David Breuer is World Wide Technology Raceway’s 2022 High School drag racing class champion. The Fenton, Missouri, native won the final two races of the season and took the 2022 title by 71 points over past Jr. Dragster champion Sam Stewart.
High School class drag races are conducted on Wide Open Wednesdays at WWTR’s drag strip. The 2022 season, scheduled for nine races, was abbreviated when weather interfered on April 20, May 4, May 18 and July 27. After Luke Beach scored twice (April 6 and June 29), and Kennedy Hale won the final round of eliminations on July 6, Breuer won the last two races of the year, on August 10 and August 31.
Breuer, who completed his second year in the High School class, was raised in the racing community and has been competing since age 15. Breuer is a full-time senior at De Smet Jesuit High School and will be attending the Missouri University of Science and Technology to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This summer he will work in his uncle’s machine shop, working on and programming CNC machines (“computer numerical control”) as well as manual lathes.
“One achievement I have been involved in is my esports room and league,” said Breuer. “I helped present to the board members who have funded the room in its entirety. I planned the room and designed and mocked-up a model as well. My classmates and I are heading to state for the Halo Series. I also am a member of the National Honor Society.
“One story I was fond of this year is about how ‘Tall Sam’ (Sam Stewart) and I battled it out in finals the last two races. It was a great, friendly competition and I am sad to see him go.”
World Wide Technology Raceway will honor its 2022 drag racing champions – including David — at the annual Carl’s 4WD & Performance Center ET Bracket Series banquet on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The banquet will be held at VFW Post 2866, located at 66 VFW Lane in St. Charles, Missouri.
