Austin Prock and the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster team enter this weekend’s Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex looking to ruffle some feathers in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship battle.
Prock, the 2019 NHRA Rookie of the Year, turned his season around at Reading, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 18 when, after qualifying No. 4, he beat four-time reigning champion Steve Torrence in the second round and points leader Justin Ashley in the final to claim his second career win in Top Fuel. Although he is only 10th in points halfway through the Countdown, he and his Montana Brand / RMT dragster have shown they could play an enormous role in determining this year’s champion.
“I’m looking forward to the ‘Stampede of Speed’ at Texas Motorplex. We had a great car at the FallNationals in 2019 and I’m hoping we can build from that,” Prock said. “I’m ready to be back in the seat, I’ve been dreaming of driving the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist car the last few nights. We’ve hoping for a big weekend for all of John Force Racing in this Countdown.”
Prock is making just his second start at Dallas where he reached the semifinal round of the Texas FallNationals in 2019. Although he has made only 45 career starts, the third generation drag racer benefits from the presence of veteran crew chiefs Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler, the latter the only crew chief to have won series championships with three different drivers in two different classes.
Competition at the Texas NHRA FallNationals at the Texas Motorplex begins with four qualifying session Friday at 3:30 and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. Eliminations for the event will start on Sunday at noon. Television coverage will be on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) Sunday starting with a qualifying show at 10:00 a.m. ET and eliminations at 10:30 p.m. ET.
