ARCA Menards Series West at Irwindale Speedway: NAPA Auto Parts 150 Notes

ARCA

  • Jake Drew enters the sixth race of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series West season with a 35-point advantage in the series standings over veteran Todd Souza. Drew has won the last two West races, road course events at Portland International Raceway and Sonoma Raceway.
  • Team owner Bob Bruncati’s Sunrise Racing team has gotten off to a strong start in 2022. Bounty Rookie Challenge contender Tanner Reif scored the win in the season’s first visit to Irwindale Speedway in March, while Drew has gone back-to-back in the two most recent races. Reif currently is third in the standings, two points behind Todd Souza in second.
  • Drew’s advantage in the standings comes on the strength of his consistency at the front of the field. He is the only driver to not only finish in the top ten in each of the first five races of the season, but he’s also finished among the top five in each of them. He finished fifth in the season-opener at Phoenix Raceway, a combination race with the ARCA Menards Series, then fourth at Irwindale and second and Kern County Raceway Park before reeling off wins at Portland and Sonoma. His average finish is 2.60, which is a full five positions better than Todd Souza’s second-best average of 7.60.
  • Cole Moore and Austin Herzog round out the top five in the series standings. Moore is still looking for his first ARCA Menards Series West victory and he will be joined on the Bill McAnally Racing team at Irwindale by Landen Lewis, who will take over the driving duties of the No. 16 Chevrolet for the team. Lewis won earlier in the season at Kern County Raceway Park driving for long-time team owners Bruce Cook and Steve McGowan.
  • Back-to-back road course races have shaken up the series standings. Tanner Reif dropped from second in the standings, 15 points back, to third in the standings 37 points behind, and Cole Moore also dropped a position to fourth, dropping from 21 points out of the lead to 38 points behind. Todd Souza has been the beneficiary, leapfrogging from sixth to second in the standings. Although he has gained positions, he’s still lost ground in reference to Jake Drew, going from 24 points out of the lead to 35 points out of the lead.
  • Jake Drew is the only ARCA Menards Series West driver who has started all five races in 2022 to complete every lap of competition. Cole Moore is second in the laps completed category with 553 laps completed, two short of Drew’s 555.
  • The NAPA Auto Parts 150 Presented by The West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame will be the 32nd race for the ARCA Menards Series West at Irwindale Speedway. It will also be the 999th race all-time for the series dating back to 1954.
  • Previous winners at Irwindale include Steve Portenga, Austin Cameron, Bobby Dotter, Joe Bean, Brendan Gaughan, Austin Cameron, Scott Lynch, Andrew Myers, Brian Ickler, Jason Bowles, Auggie Vidovich, Greg Pursley, Patrick Staropoli, Chris Eggleston, Todd Gilliland, Trevor Huddleston, Jesse Love, and Tanner Reif.
  • Austin Cameron leads all drivers with four West wins at Irwindale. Brendan Gaughan, Jason Bowles, Todd Gilliland, and Jesse Love are all tied for second with three each.
  • The NAPA Auto Parts 150 Presented by The West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame will be streamed live on FloRacing on Saturday night, July 2, starting at 10 pm ET/7 pm PT. It will be shown on a delayed basis on USA Network on Sunday, July 10 at 1 pm ET.
