ARCA Menards Series East at Dover Motor Speedway – Pre-race Notebook and Stats Update

  • Defending series champion Sammy Smith enters the General Tire 125 looking for his third consecutive series victory. He won the opening two rounds of the season at New Smyrna Speedway and Five Flags Speedway and has a commanding 12-point lead in the series standings over current runner-up Taylor Gray. 
  • Ty Gibbs is the last driver to win three consecutive East races, doing so in 2021 with wins at Iowa Speedway, The Milwaukee Mile, and Bristol Motor Speedway. Each of those races were combination races with the ARCA Menards Series. 
  • The General Tire 125 will feature two breaks, at or near laps 40 and 80. Teams will only be allowed to change tires at those two breaks. Any other tire changes will need to be approved by ARCA officials. 
  • The starting lineup will be set in a combined practice/qualifying session starting at 1:15 pm ET on Friday. The driver with the fastest lap will earn the General Tire Pole Award. The track record at Dover Motor Speedway is 22.909 seconds/157.143 miles per hour, set by Harrison Burton in 2018. 
  • Dover Motor Speedway has hosted 31 previous ARCA Menards Series races dating back to the series’ inaugural season in 1987. The first ten races were held in combination with what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series and were won by drivers registered in that series. Jimmy Spencer won the first stand-alone East race at Dover in 1998.  
  • Other East winners at Dover include Dale Shaw, Matt Kobyluck, Dale Quarterley, Andy Santerre, Tim Andrews, Sean Caisse, Aric Almirola, Brett Moffitt, Darrell Wallace, Jr., CoreyLaJoie, Austin Hill, Chase Cabre, Kyle Benjamin, Harrison Burton, Ruben Garcia, Jr., Sam Mayer, and Ty Gibbs. Only Moffitt, Hill, and Mayer have multiple victories, each having won twice. 
  • Tim Andrews, Aric Almirola, Austin Hill, and Chase Cabre all scored their first career seriesvictory at Dover. 
  • Taylor Gray will become the first driver to race in the Ford Mustang within the ARCA Menards Series platform. The body style had been approved for competition before the 2022 season and will make its platform debut at Dover. 
  • Leland Honeyman will make his third career East start and his first at Dover on Friday. Honeyman won the General Tire Pole Award at the last East race at Five Flags Speedway and finished a career-best second.  
  • Rajah Caruth, current championship points leader in the ARCA Menards Series, is entered to make his first East appearance of the season. Caruth finished third in the East standings in 2021. 
  • The Venturini Motorsports team will field four cars in the General Tire 125, with defending ARCA Menards Series West champion Jesse Love, Conner Jones, Jake Finch, and Jonathan Shafer at the wheel. 
  • Team owner Bruce Cook enters the Dover race with some momentum at his back, coming off a West series win last Saturday night with rookie Landen Lewis at the wheel. Christian Rose, who is seventh in the East standings, will drive the No. 42 Chevrolet at Dover. 
  • Smith has been at the point for 274 laps so far in 2022, nearly three times as many laps in the lead as Taylor Gray in second with 99. Leyland Honeyman is third with 24 laps led. 
  • The General Tire 125 will be streamed live on FloRacing starting at 5:30 pm ET on Friday, April 29.
