The final race of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season is on tap this weekend at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria looking to finish the year on a high note. The team is riding a two-race streak of No. 1 qualifiers and would like to make it three in a row in Pomona.

Throughout the Countdown DeJoria and her Bandero Premium Tequila ROKiT Toyota Camry Funny Car team have improved and shown flashes of brilliance, including their first win of 2021 at the Thunder Valley Nationals. It was DeJoria’s sixth career professional Funny Car victory and the first with her new team in partnership with long-time mentor and crew chief Del Worsham. The Bristol title was a culmination of over a year of blood, sweat and tears.

“The Bristol win was special. We knew we had all the pieces all season,” said DeJoria. “Everything finally fell into place at the Thunder Valley Nationals. We are heading to Pomona looking to pick up one more win this season.”

“I love Southern California and racing at Pomona,” said DeJoria. “I’ll have a lot of family and friends at the track. The weather should be good for some quick runs. This Bandero Tequila Funny Car is an awesome racecar to drive and we will just see what happens.”

This season the performance numbers DeJoria has stacked up have made for an impressive list of accomplishments. In addition to the two No. 1 qualifiers at Bristol and Las Vegas the Bandero Tequila Funny Car has been the No. 2 or No. 3 qualifier seven times this season. They raced to a runner-up finish at the Mile-High Nationals in Denver with an additional five semifinal finishes to their credit.

DeJoria, currently sits eighth in points, will wrap up the season with more round wins than losses and could easily finish as high as fourth in the final point standing with a strong qualifying effort and a successful race day. Her previous highest points finish was 2014 when she wrapped up the season in seventh place.

“This season has been amazing and our whole team has really pulled together,” summed up DeJoria. “We want to go into the off-season with momentum. We are going to give it our all this weekend.”

Qualifying will begin on Friday afternoon with one session followed by two qualifying rounds on Saturday. DeJoria’s quest for her second win of 2021 will begin at 10 a.m. PST on Sunday.
