No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry News and Notes

  • TRUEX AT BRISTOL: Martin Truex Jr. owns two top-five finishes and three top-10s in NASCAR Cup Series competition on the Bristol Motor Speedway concrete oval. In the most recent race on the concrete oval last fall, Truex finished 24th after making an unscheduled pit stop under green-flag conditions dropped him several laps behind. Earlier this year, Truex led 126 of 253 laps and won a stage before a flat tire on a late-race restart relegated the No. 19 team to a 19th-place finish in the Bristol dirt race.
  • RICHMOND WIN NOTES: Truex’s win Saturday night at Richmond Raceway was the 31st of his NASCAR Cup Series career and fourth of the 2021 season. He ranks 28th on the all-time wins list – one behind NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett. This was Truex’s 10th career Playoff victory – tied for fifth-most all-time. It was his third career win at the .75-mile track – all coming in the past five races. This marks the fifth time in the past six seasons that Truex has won at least four races.
  • 750 SUCCESS: All four of Truex’s wins this season have come using the 750-horsepower, low downforce package that will be raced this weekend. The No. 19 team started their winning ways by leading 64 laps on the way to victory lane at Phoenix Raceway and backed that up with a win at Martinsville Speedway in April. Truex’s most impressive performance of the season came at Darlington Raceway where he led 248 laps, won both stages and took home the checkered flag. Then last week, he led 80 laps and fended off teammate Denny Hamlin in the closing laps to win at Richmond Raceway.
  • A FEW FIRSTS: While 17 years apart, Bristol played host to Truex’s first career victories in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Mayetta, New Jersey native broke onto the scene with his Xfinity Series win at the track in 2004 that served as a springboard for the first of his two championship seasons. Earlier this year, Truex drove the No. 51 Auto-Owners Insurance Toyota Tundra to victory lane in the Bristol dirt race.
  • BASS PRO SHOPS: A longtime supporter of Truex and NASCAR, Bass Pro Shops will be featured as the primary sponsor of the No. 19 Camry for Saturday night’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Bass Pro Shops is North America’s premier outdoor and conservation company. Founded in 1972 when avid young angler Johnny Morris began selling tackle out of his father’s liquor store in Springfield, Missouri. Today the company provides customers with unmatched offerings spanning premier destination retail, outdoor equipment manufacturing, world-class resort destinations and more.
  • JGR AT BRISTOL: Joe Gibbs Racing owns 13 NASCAR Cup Series wins at Bristol Motor Speedway. In 146 combined starts at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile, the organization has racked up 38 top-five finishes, 56 top-10s and 6,224 laps led. Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart have all driven JGR entries to victory lane at Bristol.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway begins Saturday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network, PRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Talk about going to Bristol already locked into the next round…

“It’s definitely a relief to have that win and not have to worry about Bristol this week. I enjoy racing there and we’ve had some great cars, but for whatever reason, we have had no luck whatsoever on the Cup side. Whether it’s flat tires, loose wheels, speeding penalties, getting caught up in crashes, you name it and it’s happened to us at Bristol. So, from that standpoint, it hasn’t been our best track, but we’re capable of running well there if we can just have a smooth night. It would mean a lot to have a good run because it’s a big night for Johnny Morris and everyone at Bass Pro sponsoring the race, so we’re going to give it our best shot and see if we can get a few more Playoff points before the next round.”
