Maple Grove Special For Todd...Maple Grove Raceway is a special place for J.R. Todd after he opened his run to the 2018 Funny Car world championship with a win to begin the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. The victory was the first of three playoff victories for Todd in 2018. That triumph also cemented Todd a place in the history books as the DHL Toyota driver joined Kenny Bernstein and Gary Scelzi as the only drivers to win in both Top Fuel and Funny Car at the Pennsylvania track.
Brown Eyes Another PA Win…Antron Brown will be looking to earn his third victory in the last six events at Maple Grove Raceway this weekend. He defeated Tony Schumacher for the Wally in 2015 and Brittany Force in 2016. Brown went on to win the Top Fuel world championship both years. He’ll enter this year’s Countdown in third place.
DeJoria Enters Countdown On High Note…Alexis DeJoria will be entering the Countdown on a high note after advancing to the Funny Car semifinals at the U.S. Nationals. It marked the third time in the last six events she’s gone to the semifinals or beyond.
Winning at Maple Grove…Toyota drivers have won nine times at Maple Grove over the NHRA’s last 11 trips to the racetrack. Seven of those victories came in Top Fuel, beginning with Larry Dixon winning back-to-back in 2009-2010. Khalid alBalooshi won in 2012, followed by Shawn Langdon in 2013, Antron Brown in 2015 and 2016, and Richie Crampton in 2019. Toyota Camry drivers Cruz Pedregon (2010) and J.R. Todd (2018) have each won in Funny Car.
J.R. Todd, DHL Toyota Camry Funny Car: “From here on out, it’s all about winning races. We’ve got seven races to go out there and run as hard as we can and get as many round wins as we can. We’re in the hunt and our DHL Toyota and this Kalitta Motorsports team are capable of winning a championship. That’s our goal.”
Antron Brown Matco Tools/Toyota Top Fuel Dragster: “We set ourselves up with a top three spot and that’s a good thing. Now we just need to go out and swing for the fences. We’re ready for Reading.”
